The Opportunity
HOPE is seeking an ambitious Chief Development Officer to drive the revenue growth behind the strategic plan we launched for our 40th anniversary, including growing HOPE's budget to $12M by FY2029. An integral member of the senior leadership team, the CDO reports to the Executive Director, works closely with the Board of Directors, and leads a four-person development and communications team along with event planning, government relations, and public relations consultants. This role is in-office four days a week, based at 1 Smith Street (Brooklyn) and 1360 Garrison Avenue (South Bronx).
Key Responsibilities
Revenue growth. Set and meet annual revenue goals and the goals of the strategic plan across HOPE's diverse funding model — government, foundations and corporations, individual donors, and special events — deepening existing relationships while expanding the donor base.
- Build and execute an integrated fundraising plan, with budgets and resources matched to the strategic plan.
- Track progress and develop proactive and corrective plans to keep goals on course.
- Cultivate and orchestrate multi-year gifts and commitments that provide sustained support for the strategic plan.
- Secure City Council, state discretionary, and federal funding, and build relationships with elected officials and agencies.
- Lead capital fundraising for facility upgrades and new space alongside annual operating support.
- Grow events so they reach new audiences and add revenue, rather than drawing on the same donors.
Visibility. Oversee communications, marketing, and media relations to raise HOPE's profile and position the Executive Director and senior staff as public voices.
Team and project leadership. Support, manage, assess, and develop a four-person team, identifying areas of need and growth as the organization evolves. Manage consultants and complex projects to deadline and budget.
Board and leadership partnership. Work closely with the Board of Directors, staffing the Development and Governance Committees, and equip board members, the Associate Board, and senior leaders to succeed as fundraisers and ambassadors.
Qualifications
- A deep commitment to HOPE's mission and to economic mobility for New Yorkers facing barriers to employment
- 10+ years of progressive fundraising experience across multiple revenue streams, including six-figure gifts
- Proven success securing multi-year gifts from foundations, corporations, and individuals
- Experience securing government funding;

Compensation
Salary range: $150,000–$165,000, commensurate with experience. HOPE offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, a 401(k) with employer match, a professional development allotment, and generous paid time off.
