Chief Engineer

Job Summary

The Chief Engineer oversees all engineering, maintenance, and technical operations of the hotel to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient functioning of facilities. Responsible for preventive maintenance, repairs, energy management, and compliance with safety standards, the role leads the engineering team, manages budgets, and supports operational excellence to enhance guest satisfaction.
  1. Oversee the overall technical management of the hotel property and facilities
  2. Lead and manage preventative and reactive maintenance programs
  3. Plan, supervise and execute all maintenance works and technical projects
  4. Prepare and manage CAPEX and OPEX budgets, ensuring cost control and optimization
  5. Liaise and negotiate with external suppliers, contractors, and technical service providers
  6. Ensure full legal and regulatory compliance across all technical and safety requirements
  7. Maintain proper documentation, reporting, and certification records
  8. Collaborate closely with the General Manager and other department heads
  9. Lead, motivate, and develop the maintenance team
  10. Assess short- and long-term technical needs of the property and plan accordingly
  11. Support sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency improvements


Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry
  • Experience in an upscale or luxury hotel environment preferred
  • Strong knowledge of managing technical/engineering departments
  • Proven experience in budgeting (CAPEX & OPEX control)
  • Solid understanding of preventative maintenance systems and compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and safety regulations to ensure full property compliance
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Resourceful, solution-oriented, and able to multitask effectively
  • Ability to manage both internal teams and external service providers
