POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Engineer, Reactor Design & Analysis provides enterprise-wide technical leadership for the NuScale Power Module (NPM), overseeing analytical foundations, design basis development, and cross-disciplinary technical integration. This role defines strategy, sets technical direction, and ensures engineering rigor across analytical methods, including, but not limited to, transient and steady-state analysis, flow-induced vibration, and water hammer assessments. The Chief Engineer partners with other engineering leaders to validate methods, develop high-fidelity models, resolve technical issues, and substantiate licensing and product delivery decisions. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the VP, Engineering.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical leadership for reactor transient analysis, ensuring methods and results support sound engineering decisions.
- Lead heat exchanger design activities and reviews to meet performance and safety requirements, including integration with turbine vendors.
- Direct reactor coolant system (RCS) design approach, standards, and technical integration.
- Lead flow‑induced vibration assessments and define mitigations based on validated analyses.
- Establish and apply advanced analysis techniques (for example, CFD) to develop evidence‑based design solutions.
- Review plant technology readiness and technical risks and ensure plans are in place to reduce risk appropriately
- Chair and/or participate in design reviews
- Provide independent expert technical reviews on key work products
- Engineering program development and oversight within domain expertise
- Provide mentoring and training in areas of expertise
- Remain informed of developing technologies and techniques associated with Engineering looking for creative ways of improving technology
- Create formal networks and serve as an internal and/or external spokesperson for the organization regarding technology
- Assists business development personnel in client contacts to demonstrate the company’s design
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Quality Assurance: Working knowledge of or ability to understand the quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 or equivalent.
MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
- Education: Minimum of a Masters degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution required, Doctorate preferred.
- Experience: A combination of either of the following: 10 years of experience with a PhD, or 15 years of experience with a Masters. Experience must be in nuclear related engineering activities with progressively increasing technology leadership roles required. Broad background including safety analyses and testing experience required.
- Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
