We are seeking an experienced, highly connected, and commercially minded Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead a rapidly growing biotechnology company specializing in stem cell–based technologies and regenerative medicine.
The CEO will work closely with the Board, scientific leadership, management team, and key external stakeholders to accelerate the company's growth, strengthen its organizational capabilities, and build a scalable, professionally managed biotechnology business.
The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership across the organization with responsibility for business development, strategic partnerships, capital planning, commercialization, organizational development and long-term corporate growth.
The ideal candidate will combine strong biotechnology or life-sciences experience with proven executive leadership, fundraising capabilities, strategic relationship management, corporate governance expertise, and experience with U.S. and international financing and strategic transactions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Corporate Strategy & Operations
- Partner with the Board and management team to develop and execute the company's overall business and growth strategy.
- Establish scalable operational systems, processes, governance frameworks, and performance metrics.
- Oversee cross-functional activities spanning R&D, clinical development, regulatory affairs, manufacturing, business development, finance, human resources, and corporate operations.
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing executive and operational team.
- Translate scientific and technology milestones into commercially meaningful business objectives.
- Establish clear priorities, KPIs, and accountability across the organization.
- Identify operational and strategic risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Ensure the organization maintains high standards of execution, governance, compliance, and operational discipline.
2. Financing & Strategic Stakeholder Relationships
- Lead and participate in appropriate financing and capital-planning activities in support of the company's business objectives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with appropriate financial, strategic, and industry stakeholders.
- Identify potential funding sources and strategic relationships aligned with the company's development priorities.
- Work with management and professional advisors on business plans, financial materials, financing documentation, and due-diligence processes.
- Build constructive, long-term relationships with investors, strategic partners, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
- Evaluate opportunities for strategic capital, industry expertise, commercial capabilities, technology partnerships, and market access.
- Support the company's long-term financial and strategic development.
3. Corporate Governance & Organizational Readiness
- Strengthen corporate governance, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance procedures, and management systems as the organization grows.
- Ensure the company maintains appropriate standards of corporate governance, financial discipline, and regulatory compliance.
- Work closely with legal counsel, auditors, financial advisors, and other professional service providers on corporate and strategic matters.
- Maintain a strong understanding of applicable U.S. regulatory requirements, financial reporting standards, corporate governance principles, and compliance practices relevant to a growing, highly regulated business.
- Establish appropriate policies, controls, reporting structures, and processes to support sustainable organizational development
- Provide the Board with timely, accurate, and commercially relevant information to support informed decision-making.
- Monitor relevant developments in the biotechnology, healthcare, regulatory, and financial sectors and advise the Board and management accordingly.
4. Business Development & Strategic Partnerships
- Identify, develop, and negotiate strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, research institutions, hospitals, universities, and other industry stakeholders.
- Develop opportunities involving licensing, co-development, joint ventures, strategic investments, commercialization, and technology partnerships.
- Build relationships with key industry leaders and strategic decisionmakers globally.
- Represent the company at major biotechnology, healthcare, investment, and industry conferences.
- Expand the company's international network and identify opportunities for global commercialization and strategic collaboration.
- Convert scientific and technological capabilities into commercially viable partnerships and opportunities.
5. Corporate Development
- Evaluate potential acquisitions, investments, licensing opportunities, strategic partnerships, and other corporate initiatives.
- Work with the Board and management team to assess new business opportunities and potential market expansion.
- Monitor competitive, technological, regulatory, and commercial developments within the stem cell and regenerative medicine sectors.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the company's technology portfolio, capabilities, partnerships, and market position.
- Develop strategies that support sustainable long-term organizational and enterprise growth.
6. Organizational Leadership
- Establish a culture of accountability, innovation, scientific excellence, integrity, and commercial discipline.
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-caliber senior talent.
- Establish effective management KPIs and reporting mechanisms.
- Promote collaboration across scientific, clinical, commercial, financial, and operational functions.
- Serve as a credible representative of the company with employees, partners, regulators, industry leaders, investors, and other stakeholders.
- Foster an entrepreneurial environment while maintaining appropriate governance, compliance, and execution standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Finance, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Medicine, Engineering, or a related field. An MBA, PhD, MD, JD, or equivalent advanced qualification is advantageous.
- 10+ years of senior management, operations, corporate development, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life-sciences experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, regenerative medicine, cell therapy, or a related life-sciences organization.
- Strong understanding of stem cell technologies, cell therapy, regenerative medicine, biotechnology development, and/or translational medicine.
- Demonstrated experience with corporate financing, strategic relationships, or other capital-planning activities.
- Strong relationship-building capabilities across relevant industry, financial, scientific, and strategic stakeholder groups.
- Understanding of corporate finance, governance, financial reporting, and regulatory considerations applicable to growth-stage and highly regulated businesses.
- Experience working with legal counsel, auditors, financial advisors, investment banks, or other professional service providers.
- Strong negotiation, communication, presentation, and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment while maintaining strong governance, compliance, and execution discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a CEO, COO, CFO, President, or General Manager within biotechnology or life sciences.
- Track record of supporting or leading successful corporate financing or strategic funding initiatives.
- Experience with strategic transactions, licensing, partnerships, or other significant corporate development activities.
- Established relationships within biotechnology, healthcare, pharmaceutical, institutional, or strategic business communities.
- Experience with FDA-regulated biotechnology, cell therapy, regenerative medicine, clinical development, or commercialization.
- Experience operating across Asian and U.S. biotechnology or healthcare markets.
- Experience preparing organizations for institutional due diligence and sophisticated governance and reporting standards.
- Experience leading rapidly growing or internationally expanding biotechnology organizations.
