The Chief financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. The VP/CFO plans, coordinates and supervises the financial and accounting activities of the corporation to ensure an effective and efficient operation. The VP/CFO practices financial management using appropriate techniques and practices within the guidelines of regulatory and advisory standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the organization’s fiscal function and performance
  • Participates in the development of the Corporation’s plans and programs as a strategic partner
  • Remains current on rules/regulations of third party payors; formulates strategy related to third party reimbursement mechanisms
  • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action
  • Analyses, preparation and interprets monthly hospital financial reports to the CEO/Administrator and Board of Directors; monitors problem areas that need potential improvement
  • Reviews monthly financial statements on a timely basis and researches any unreasonable variances that are discovered
  • Directs the formulation of an annual operating budget, which will reflect the goals, and/or objectives of the President/CEO, Board of Directors, and other executives/managers/supervisors in performing their responsibilities
  • Directs the accurate and timely maintenance of the general ledger and related activities with the assistance of in-house personnel. Balances bank statements, maintains employee-spending accounts
  • Provides technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers/supervisor on financial issues affecting their budgets
  • Provides strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization; i.e., evaluation of potential alliances acquisitions and/or mergers and pension funds and investments
  • Optimizes the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism which includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs
  • Be an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the Hospital may enter from a financial standpoint
  • Evaluation of the finance division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities(where possible) of individuals
  • Selects, develops and motivates a qualified staff to ensure attainment of established objectives
  • Participates in special projects as requested by the CEO/Administrator

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Financial activities are completed as scheduled which contribute to the effectiveness of the department
  • Accounting operations are evaluated, updated and completed according to established timeframes
  • Board of Directors and various board committees made aware of the financial operations of the facility
  • Special projects are completed according to established deadlines
  • Ensures a qualified staff achieves established goals and objectives, which contribute to the effective functioning of the department

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCY:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance with specific experience in health care finance including third party reimbursement and financial analysis with 5+ years of management background preferred.
  • Planning and organization: an ability to plan and manage multiple projects
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Attention to detail, problem analysis and problem resolution
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft, QuickBooks, Peachtree base software
  • Must have excellent verbal, interpersonal and communication skills and represent a positive attitude to staff, patients and public
  • Professional appearance and manner
