Position Summary

HR MGMT 10, LLC is an Employer of Record providing workforce support services to partnered brands operating in regulated and consumer product industries. This role supports a multi-entity, vertically integrated cannabis operator with licensed facilities and revenue streams across multiple verticals. The Chief Financial Officer will bring accounting in-house from an interim CFO and outside tax firm, building a permanent accounting department along with the reporting, controls, and tax infrastructure the organization's size and complexity require. This is a builder's role responsible for designing the finance org chart, controls, reporting cadence, and intercompany architecture, and for preparing the company for audit readiness and future capital events.

Core Responsibilities

1. Accounting Operations & Organization

  • Supervise and advise on day-to-day accounting across all entities, including AR, AP, inventory, raw materials, payroll coordination, reconciliations, and period-end close.

  • Build the accounting organization itself, including defined roles, reporting lines, and documented processes.

  • Lead the transition of the accounting function away from the interim CFO and outside tax firm.

2. Business-Unit Management & Reporting

  • Bring each revenue stream and business unit under accounting department ownership.

  • Deliver clear, accurate, and timely reporting to the managers responsible for those businesses.

3. Tax Strategy & Compliance

  • Coordinate and supervise federal, state, and local tax planning and compliance across all applicable jurisdictions and entities.

  • Manage Section 280E exposure, entity-level filings, and the tax provision supporting the audit.

  • Work alongside outside tax advisors and other professionals to execute tax strategy.

4. Internal Controls & Financial Risk

  • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls over financial reporting, including segregation of duties, approval authorities, and fraud-prevention measures.

  • Support the company's financial risk and insurance program.

5. Capital Structure & Lender Management

  • Support management of existing and future debt, covenant compliance, debt service, refinancings, and lender relationships.

6. Investor Relations & Equity Administration

  • Support investor relations and the data room.

  • Manage cap-table and equity administration.

  • Oversee valuations, including any Section 409A valuations, and handle the mechanics of equity and secondary transactions.

7. Intercompany Framework

  • Work hand-in-hand with the legal department to establish and maintain the intercompany framework, including master service agreements, transfer-pricing methodology, and IP/royalty agreements, on an arm's-length basis.

  • Ensure the intercompany framework is sufficient to support consolidation and the audit.

8. Transactions & Purchase Accounting

  • Lead or support financial due diligence and integration for acquisitions.

  • Complete or coordinate purchase price allocations for prior acquisitions.

  • Support sell-side financial readiness for any sale or change of control.

9. Compliance Interface

  • Oversee or support multi-state payroll tax compliance.

  • Oversee reconciliation of seed-to-sale / track-and-trace data (METRC or similar) to financial records.

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience, including time as a CFO, VP Finance, or Corporate Controller at a multi-entity company.

  • Direct, hands-on experience with Section 280E and cannabis tax positioning.

  • Demonstrated experience building an accounting department from a thin or outsourced starting point, including hiring, defining roles, and documenting process.

  • Experience with consolidated financial reporting across multiple legal entities, and preparing a company for and through an external audit.

  • Working knowledge of inventory and cost accounting in a manufacturing or production environment.

  • Comfort with intercompany structures and transfer pricing, and the coordination with legal that they require.

  • Experience with debt covenants, lender reporting, and cap-table administration.

  • Prior M&A involvement, including diligence, integration, and purchase price allocation.

  • Familiarity with METRC or comparable seed-to-sale systems, and multi-state payroll tax compliance.

Strongly Preferred

  • CPA and/or MBA; public accounting background a plus.

  • Experience taking a company through a sale, recapitalization, or major financing.

  • Experience in a regulated industry where compliance failures carry license risk.

  • Equally credible presenting to a lender or a board and sitting with a plant manager to explain a variance.

What Success Looks Like

The accounting function has transitioned fully in-house, with a defined organizational structure, documented processes, and no ongoing reliance on the interim CFO.

The company has clean, audit-ready books across all entities, with internal controls and an intercompany framework in place to support consolidation and the audit.

Leadership, lenders, and the board have timely, reliable reporting, and the finance function is positioned to support future acquisitions, financing, or a sale on good terms.
