ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced, commercially driven, and strategically minded Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Occupational Health Division to provide executive leadership across the Occupational Health business.

The COO will be responsible for driving strategic growth, operational excellence, commercial performance, profitability, service quality, and scalable expansion across the division.

The successful candidate will bring strong experience in healthcare operations, occupational health, corporate healthcare, industrial clinic management, business development, and multi-site service delivery.

This is a high-impact executive position requiring an individual who can translate corporate strategy into measurable business results while building efficient systems, high-performing teams, strong client relationships, and sustainable growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Business Growth

  • Develop and execute the Occupational Health Division's strategic growth plan.
  • Drive revenue growth, market expansion, and profitability across the division.
  • Identify new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and emerging market opportunities.
  • Develop and commercialise innovative occupational health and corporate wellness solutions.
  • Strengthen the organisation's position within Nigeria's occupational health and corporate healthcare market.
  • Translate strategic objectives into measurable operational, commercial, and financial outcomes.

Operational Excellence & Service Delivery

  • Provide overall operational oversight across occupational health business units, clinics, and client sites.
  • Develop and implement effective SOPs, operational systems, governance structures, and service standards.
  • Optimise workforce productivity, resource utilisation, workflows, and operational costs.
  • Ensure consistent service quality and operational standards across multiple locations.
  • Lead continuous improvement and operational transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure operational readiness for new contracts, projects, clinics, and business expansions.

Corporate Client & Business Development

  • Lead the acquisition, development, and retention of corporate occupational health clients.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with key corporate and institutional stakeholders.
  • Lead strategic proposals, client presentations, commercial negotiations, and contract execution.
  • Develop opportunities across sectors including Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Construction, Maritime, Telecommunications, Financial Services, Government, NGOs, and Development Organisations.
  • Drive client retention, contract renewals, cross-selling, and upselling opportunities.
  • Develop strategic partnerships that support business growth.

Financial Management & Profitability

  • Drive divisional profitability and financial sustainability.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial performance targets.
  • Monitor revenue, margins, operating costs, project profitability, EBITDA, and cost-to-revenue ratios.
  • Identify cost optimisation opportunities while maintaining service quality.
  • Work closely with Finance and Commercial teams on pricing, budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis.

Clinical Governance, Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, occupational health standards, and industry requirements.
  • Strengthen clinical governance, quality assurance, patient safety, and risk management frameworks.
  • Oversee incident reporting, investigation, corrective actions, and risk mitigation.
  • Maintain readiness for regulatory audits, inspections, certifications, and accreditation.
  • Promote a culture of safety, ethical practice, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Industrial Clinics & Field Operations

  • Oversee the management and performance of industrial and onsite healthcare facilities.
  • Ensure effective deployment and management of healthcare personnel across client locations.
  • Monitor compliance with client SLAs, contractual obligations, and service standards.
  • Address operational gaps and performance issues promptly.
  • Develop scalable models for nationwide occupational health service delivery.

Digital Health & Innovation

  • Drive the adoption of technology and digital solutions across occupational health operations.
  • Support the implementation of telemedicine, electronic medical systems, health analytics, digital patient engagement, and corporate wellness platforms.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process digitisation.
  • Promote data-driven decision-making and innovative healthcare delivery models.

Leadership & People Management

  • Build and lead high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, performance, innovation, and service excellence.
  • Develop talent, succession plans, leadership capability, and workforce strategies.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across the division.
  • Foster collaboration across clinical, commercial, administrative, and operational teams.

Stakeholder & External Relations

  • Represent the organisation at strategic meetings, industry events, conferences, and partnership forums.
  • Build relationships with HMOs, corporate organisations, government agencies, regulators, industry associations, NGOs, and strategic partners.
  • Lead institutional collaborations and strategic partnerships.
  • Strengthen the organisation's reputation and influence within the occupational health sector.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 7 years in senior healthcare operations, management, or executive leadership.
  • Proven experience managing complex healthcare operations and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrable experience in healthcare business growth, operational transformation, and service delivery.
  • Strong understanding of corporate healthcare, occupational health, industrial clinics, or related healthcare services.

Preferred

  • MBA, MPH, MHA, or another relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • Professional certification in healthcare management, occupational health, business management, or a related field.
  • Experience managing multi-site healthcare operations.
  • Experience working with corporate healthcare clients, HMOs, industrial organisations, or large institutional clients.
  • Experience in healthcare commercialisation, strategic partnerships, and business development.
