Experience: Minimum 15 years' relevant professional experience, including at least 7 years in senior healthcare, operations, commercial, or executive leadership roles.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an accomplished, commercially astute, and strategically driven Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Occupational Health Division to provide executive leadership and operational oversight across the organisation's Occupational Health business.

The COO will be responsible for translating the organisation's strategic objectives into measurable business outcomes, with accountability for business growth, operational excellence, financial performance, service quality, clinical governance, client satisfaction, and scalable expansion.

The successful candidate will bring substantial experience in healthcare operations, occupational health, corporate healthcare, industrial clinic management, business development, commercial strategy, and multi-site service delivery.

This is a high-impact executive position for a leader capable of building efficient operating systems, developing high-performing teams, strengthening strategic client relationships, and delivering sustainable revenue and profitability growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Strategic Leadership & Business Growth

  • Develop and execute the strategic growth plan for the Occupational Health Division.
  • Translate corporate strategy into clear operational, commercial, and financial objectives.
  • Drive revenue growth, market expansion, profitability, and long-term business sustainability.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and emerging market opportunities.
  • Lead the development and commercialisation of innovative occupational health and corporate wellness solutions.
  • Strengthen the organisation's market position within Nigeria's occupational health and corporate healthcare sector.
  • Establish scalable business models to support expansion into new markets, locations, and service lines.

2. Operational Excellence & Service Delivery

  • Provide executive oversight of occupational health operations, clinics, client sites, and service delivery teams.
  • Establish and continuously improve SOPs, operating systems, governance frameworks, and service standards.
  • Drive operational efficiency, workforce productivity, resource optimisation, and cost control.
  • Ensure consistent service quality and operational standards across all locations.
  • Monitor operational performance against agreed targets, SLAs, budgets, and service commitments.
  • Lead continuous improvement, restructuring, and operational transformation initiatives.
  • Ensure operational readiness for new contracts, projects, clinics, and business expansions.

3. Corporate Client Management & Business Development

  • Lead the acquisition, development, retention, and expansion of corporate occupational health accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong C-suite and senior stakeholder relationships with corporate and institutional clients.
  • Lead strategic proposals, commercial presentations, negotiations, contract discussions, and client onboarding.
  • Develop business opportunities across sectors including Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Construction, Maritime, Telecommunications, Financial Services, Government, NGOs, and Development Organisations.
  • Drive contract renewals, client retention, cross-selling, upselling, and expansion of existing accounts.
  • Establish strategic alliances and partnerships that enhance market access and commercial growth.

4. Financial Management & Commercial Performance

  • Take executive responsibility for the financial performance and profitability of the division.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, business plans, and financial performance targets.
  • Monitor revenue, gross margin, EBITDA, operating expenses, cost-to-revenue ratios, and project profitability.
  • Review commercial models, pricing structures, contract economics, and resource requirements.
  • Identify and implement cost optimisation initiatives without compromising clinical quality or client experience.
  • Work closely with Finance and Commercial teams on budgeting, forecasting, pricing, financial reporting, and profitability analysis.
  • Ensure commercial decisions are aligned with the organisation's overall financial objectives.

5. Clinical Governance, Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Nigerian healthcare regulations, occupational health standards, professional requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Provide executive oversight of clinical governance, quality assurance, patient safety, and risk management systems.
  • Ensure appropriate processes are in place for incident reporting, investigation, corrective action, and risk mitigation.
  • Maintain organisational readiness for regulatory inspections, audits, certifications, and accreditation processes.
  • Promote a culture of ethical practice, patient safety, accountability, compliance, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Work closely with clinical leadership to ensure operational and commercial growth does not compromise quality of care.

6. Industrial Clinics & Field Operations

  • Oversee the performance and operational effectiveness of industrial, corporate, and onsite healthcare facilities.
  • Ensure appropriate deployment, scheduling, supervision, and performance management of healthcare personnel across client locations.
  • Monitor compliance with client SLAs, contractual obligations, clinical standards, and agreed service levels.
  • Identify and resolve operational, staffing, service, and client-related challenges promptly.
  • Establish scalable frameworks for multi-site and nationwide occupational health service delivery.
  • Ensure effective mobilisation and transition of newly acquired contracts and client sites.

7. Digital Health, Technology & Innovation

  • Drive the adoption of appropriate technology and digital solutions across occupational health operations.
  • Support the implementation of electronic medical records, telemedicine, health analytics, digital patient engagement, and corporate wellness platforms.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process digitisation, and improved operational reporting.
  • Promote the use of data and business intelligence to improve decision-making, service delivery, and commercial performance.
  • Evaluate emerging healthcare technologies and solutions that can create competitive advantage.

8. Leadership, Talent & Organisational Development

  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing multidisciplinary teams across the division.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, performance, innovation, collaboration, and service excellence.
  • Set clear performance expectations, objectives, and accountability structures.
  • Develop leadership capability, succession plans, workforce strategies, and talent pipelines.
  • Identify capability gaps and ensure appropriate training, coaching, and development initiatives.
  • Foster effective collaboration between clinical, commercial, administrative, and operational teams.

9. Stakeholder & External Relations

  • Represent the organisation at strategic meetings, industry events, conferences, forums, and partnership engagements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with HMOs, corporate organisations, government agencies, regulators, professional bodies, industry associations, NGOs, and strategic partners.
  • Lead institutional collaborations and strategic partnerships that support business development and market positioning.
  • Strengthen the organisation's reputation, credibility, and influence within the occupational health and corporate healthcare market.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required

  • MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
  • Minimum 15 years' relevant professional experience, including at least 7 years in senior healthcare management, operations, commercial leadership, or executive management.
  • Demonstrable experience managing complex healthcare operations and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven track record in healthcare business growth, operational transformation, and service delivery.
  • Strong experience in occupational health, corporate healthcare, industrial clinics, employee health services, or a closely related healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrable commercial and business development experience, including managing corporate clients and strategic accounts.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operations, governance, quality management, and regulatory compliance.

Preferred

  • MBA, MPH, MHA, or other relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • Professional certification in healthcare management, occupational health, business management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience managing multi-site or geographically dispersed healthcare operations.
  • Experience working with large corporate organisations, HMOs, industrial organisations, Oil & Gas companies, or institutional clients.
  • Experience in healthcare commercialisation, strategic partnerships, contract management, and business development.

REMUNERATION

₦1,700,000 – ₦2,000,000 NET Monthly

The stated salary range is the employee's expected monthly take-home/net remuneration. The organisation will manage applicable statutory deductions, taxes, and employer obligations separately in accordance with applicable requirements.
