Imagine Early Learning Centers seeks a Childcare Center Cleaner / Custodial Aide at The Little Apple. The Little Apple, Imagine’s 14th center, is opening in partnership with The City of New York as the first-ever, free child care program specifically created for municipal employees. The Cleaner maintains all classrooms, play areas, restrooms, and common spaces immaculately clean and disinfected. This role is vital in preventing the spread of germs and illnesses among vulnerable young children. The ideal candidate follows strict sanitation protocols and uses approved, child-safe products.

Key Responsibilities

• Sanitizing and Disinfecting: Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, toys, play equipment, tables, and doorknobs daily using approved EPA-registered products with correct dwell times.

• Restroom Maintenance: Thoroughly scrub and sanitize toilets, sinks, and changing stations. Restock soap, paper towels, and toilet paper dispensers continuously.

• Floor Care: Sweep, vacuum, and mop all classroom and hallway floors throughout the day or after hours. Shampoo carpets and address spills immediately.

• Waste Management: Empty all wastebaskets, diaper-disposal bins, and recycling containers, removing trash to designated outdoor bins safely.

• General Upkeep: Dust shelves, wash interior windows and glass doors, and clean walls or furniture as needed.

• Compliance: Follow established protocols for handling bodily fluids and hazardous materials using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Hours

• Monday - Friday
• 6:00 pm - 8:00pm

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 1 to 2 years of professional cleaning or custodial experience, preferably in a school, childcare, or healthcare setting.

• Knowledge: Familiarity with OSHA guidelines, PPE, and proper sanitation vs. disinfection practices.

• Physical Requirements: Ability to carry and lift up to 40–50 pound, and

• • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods, including performing duties outdoors.

  • Must be able to climb stairs/ramps/ladders, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and squat.

  • Must be able to reach above the shoulders and must be capable of hand grasping, touching, pulling, in addition to, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

• Background Check: Must pass a comprehensive criminal background check and fingerprinting required by New York City childcare regulations.

• Interpersonal Skills: Reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in an active and lively environment around young children.
