Schedule/Hours: M - S (29) hours per week
This position is responsible for:
Drives a Salvation Army vehicle to mall(s) to pick up gifts and take them to
the Christmas warehouse. Responsible for driving to and from homes, agencies, and churches to
pick up gifts, stockings, etc. Loads and unloads gifts from the vehicle to the warehouse.
Operates the vehicle in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and State driving
regulations; lifts, carries, loads and unloads Christmas donations, gifts, stocks, etc.; ensures the
safety, security and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times; drives kettle workers
to and from kettle locations; assists in performing work at the Christmas warehouse and center as requested
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive Salvation Army vehicle to and from malls to pick up gifts and take them to the Christmas warehouse, organizing and scheduling pick-ups by the most direct route to arrive at destinations according to schedule.
- Drives Salvation Army vehicle to homes, agencies, churches, and any other designated location to pick up gifts, stockings, etc. to take to the Christmas warehouse.
- Interacts with donors and store/homeowners as necessary and in a professional manner that represents the mission of The Salvation Army.
- Delivers bell-ringers and/or kettles to locations daily; picks up the same at the end of the day; returns to kettle locations as necessary/directed throughout the day to pick up full kettles and/or drop off empty kettles.
- Maintains cleanliness of Salvation Army vehicle inside and outside.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with janitorial work in the Christmas warehouse as needed.
- Assist with routing of traffic when necessary at the Christmas Center as requested.
- Assist with setting up trees, tables, and stands for the Christmas display and disassembling at the end of the Christmas season.
- Perform other related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the assigned geographic area.
- Ability to organize a route in a manner that saves time and gasoline consumption.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers and donors.
- Ability to perform general cleaning activities for building.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to become and remain certified to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read and communicate the English language.
- Ability to operate commercial equipment.
- Ability to exert the physical energy required to perform duties given.
- Ability to perform continuous stooping, standing, and climbing as well as lift and carry and/or push/pull
- moderate (25–50 lbs) and possibly heavy (50–100 lbs) materials and donations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a warehouse building with some exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt, dust and/or
disagreeable sights and orders.
