Description
The Chief Information Officer provides strategic, operational, and functional leadership for a local nonprofit's information technology and telecommunications organization. This executive is responsible for shaping and executing the technology strategy, ensuring investments drive operational effectiveness, service excellence, and mission impact.
The organization has recently modernized its technology environment through a migration from an on-premises data center to Azure cloud infrastructure, creating a more scalable, reliable, and standardized foundation for the future. The role oversees a complex technology ecosystem supporting diverse business functions, including program services, workforce development, retail operations, finance, human resources, and administrative functions.
As a key member of the leadership team, this leader serves as a change agent, leveraging technology to improve business processes, strengthen data-driven decision-making, control costs, and support organizational growth. Success requires developing a deep understanding of operational priorities and strategic objectives while fostering a customer-focused technology organization built on innovation, continuous improvement, and high-quality service delivery.
Responsibilities include oversight of cybersecurity strategy, governance, risk management, business continuity, and the organization's approach to AI adoption and governance. The position also leads the development of policies, standards, and best practices that ensure technology and AI initiatives align with business objectives and security requirements.
This role carries significant authority for decision-making across a technology portfolio with an annual budget of approximately $1.5 million. The successful candidate will lead a team of 7 to 10 technology professionals and oversee a comparable portfolio of external vendors and service providers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related field and 10 years’ experience in Information Technology, with a minimum of 4 years’ experience at the equivalent management level, or
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related field and 15 years’ experience in Information Technology with a minimum of 7 years’ experience at equivalent management level
- Demonstrated experience in an equivalent IT management role with responsibility for overseeing staff, budgets, vendors, and processes. Leadership experience must include operations, services, and activities of a comprehensive information technology program
- Comprehensive knowledge of infrastructure, applications, security, and best practices for I.T.
- PMP and ITIL certifications very strongly preferred
