Job Overview

The Core Faculty member, as a part of the College of International Studies, will teach agriculture classes on-site at the Bobi Agribusiness Institute in Bobi, Uganda (approximately 25 kilometers south of Gulu, Uganda). Courses will be taught Fall, Summer, and Spring.

Responsibilities i

The successful candidate will teach courses in the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Agriculture program at BAI. Courses may include basic and intermediate courses in plant science/horticulture and animal science, depending on the qualifications of the candidate. The successful candidate will advise students in the AAS program, manage course scheduling, assist remote professors with on-site coordination, and assist with directing student interns and on-site management of distance education courses.

Activities

• Teach courses in animal and plant science.
• Maintain regular office hours for students
• Assist professors teaching remotely as needed and able
• Manage agricultural workstations
• Remain active in the academic community through research and relevant organizational memberships and conferences.
• Institutional service such as serving on or leading committees
• Other related duties as assigned.

Communication

• Communicate with the Agribusiness Program Coordinator and the CIS Chair as needed.
• Communicate with students in-person and electronically as needed for advising and course instruction.
• As a representative of DIU at the Bobi Agribusiness Institute (BAI), be able to communicate the mission and vision of DIU in a professional manner to any guests or visitors at BAI.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualification of Master of Science degree in agronomy, soil science, horticulture, animal science or a related agricultural discipline is required.
• Required skills include demonstrated teaching ability, ability to work collaboratively in a cross-cultural environment, strong communication skills, and hands-on experience in production agriculture.
• Preferred qualifications include significant prior teaching experience (secondary, post-secondary, or Extension) and some managerial or administrative experience (e.g., academic, farm, agribusiness).
• Must be able to administrate a course using a Learning Management System such as Canvas.

Hours

Full-time faculty position and responsibilities. Availability may be needed after typical working hours based on farm or administrative activities.

Physical Requirements

Good physical health is required. The position requires physical effort such as lifting chairs, moving tables, transporting books and food, etc. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
