Civil Design Engineer (Water)

We are seeking an experienced Civil Design Engineer (Water sector) to join our growing engineering team in Ireland.
In this permanent position, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering innovative water infrastructure solutions for a diverse range of projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in water systems design, coupled with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering projects on schedule and within specification.
- Design and develop water infrastructure systems, including drainage, water supply, and wastewater management solutions, utilising industry-standard CAD software and modelling tools
- Conduct hydraulic analysis and modelling to ensure optimal system performance and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Prepare comprehensive technical drawings, specifications, and documentation in accordance with Irish and UK standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, environmental specialists, and project managers, to integrate water design solutions into broader project scopes
- Analyse project requirements and constraints to develop efficient, cost-effective design solutions
- Undertake site investigations and feasibility studies to inform design decisions
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant environmental legislation, building regulations, and water authority guidelines
- Review and quality-assure designs produced by junior team members, providing constructive feedback and mentoring
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to discuss design proposals and address technical queries
- Maintain organised project documentation and design records throughout the project lifecycle
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies within the organisation
Key Skills
- Proven experience in civil engineering design, specifically within water infrastructure or related disciplines
- Proficiency with CAD software, particularly AutoCAD or Civil 3D
- Strong knowledge of water management systems, including drainage design, water supply systems, and wastewater treatment principles
- Solid understanding of hydraulic engineering and fluid mechanics
- Familiarity with Irish and UK water regulations, building standards, and environmental compliance requirements
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work
Desirable
- Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and associated software
- Knowledge of sustainable water design practices and green infrastructure solutions
- Proficiency with hydraulic modelling software such as HEC-RAS or equivalent
- Experience on water utility or municipal infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with wastewater treatment system design
- Project management experience or relevant certifications
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior engineers
- Knowledge of Irish Water or UK water authority requirements and procedures
