At Stantec, we approach every water and natural resource project we undertake—whether at the local, regional, or watershed level— thoughtfully, and execute it with excellence across all project phases. We partner with our clients to design fit-for-purpose solutions that address their communities’ unique needs throughout the water infrastructure lifecycle. Our experts lead their fields and guide our work with scientific rigor, an innovative spirit, and a vision for growth. We’re a place where you can apply your passion and collaborate with top talent on work that’s critical to our clients, our communities, and the industry at large.

Your Opportunity

You will join the Energy Business Line that is planning, designing, and constructing projects worldwide that are key to a more sustainable energy and water future. You will be a key member of the Stantec for the construction of the Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project - the largest earth dam project in the United States in the last 50 years with an innovative hydraulic asphalt core. The experience gained on this project will boost your career path to key positions on hydropower, pumped storage, and water storage projects worldwide.

Initially, your focus will be to support the dam foundation grouting work and develop the skills to lead the grouting program during a second shift. Responsibilities will include evaluating grouting data, making sure that the grouting meets the design requirements, responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, working with the grouting inspectors to accurately document the work, reviewing quality testing, resolving NCRs, and working with other team members to resolve design related issues.

You may perform a variety of tasks depending on your interests and skills. Opportunities may include engineering or geologic evaluations for construction of the dam foundations, rock quarry, dam fills, asphalt core, tunnel, spillway, pipelines, and valve house. You will represent Stantec in field meetings, prepare and make presentations, prepare reports documenting the work, and perform other work as requested by your Stantec Resident Engineer.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work safely in the office and outside.
  • Review the project design and site geology, including the drawings, specifications, field investigation reports, and tunnel geotechnical baseline report (GBR).
  • Review contractor’s grouting submittals, RFIs, substitution requests and prepare responses.
  • Work with the grouting inspectors so that they record appropriate technical details of the foundation grouting to demonstrate that the drawings and specifications were met.
  • Evaluate grouting data to support decisions about the length of grout holes, the need for added grout holes, and other details.
  • Review contractor’s QC and construction manager’s QA test results.
  • Request QA testing as appropriate.
  • Work with the Resident Engineer to resolve non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Work with the Resident Engineer to resolve design-related issues and claims.
  • As requested by the Resident Engineer, perform similar work as described above for construction activities other than grouting, which may include the dam foundations, rock quarry, dam fill, asphalt core, tunnel, spillway, pipelines, access roads, and valve house.
  • Coordinate work tasks and personnel with others from the Stantec field team and home office to efficiently cover all work fronts.
  • Represent Stantec in field meetings, prepare and make presentations, prepare reports, and perform other work as requested by the Resident Engineer.
  • As a member of the Stantec team, you will be supported by the team. Members of the team will review your work, transfer skills to you, and help develop your career.
  • Your supervisor will review your career path with you and assign work tasks to you to help achieve your career goals.
