We are seeking an experienced Foreperson to join our Wellington team – a hands-on leader who leads from the front and isn’t afraid to jump on the tools.

In this role, you’ll take ownership of day-to-day operations while working alongside your crew, operating machinery (including diggers) and driving high-quality outcomes safely and efficiently.

You’ll play a key role in delivering work to programme, budget, and Downer’s high safety and quality standards, working closely with Supervisors and management to keep projects moving.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, mentoring and developing onsite crews
  • Planning, organising and coordinating daily work activities
  • Operating plant (including diggers) and supporting hands-on delivery where required
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
  • Running toolbox meetings and driving a strong safety-first culture
  • Monitoring productivity and adjusting plans to meet programme targets
  • Communicating effectively with Supervisors, Managers and clients

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Foreperson, or a strong Leading Hand ready to step up, who enjoys a balance of leadership and being on the tools.

You’ll be someone who takes pride in leading from the front, enjoys mentoring others, and is confident making decisions on site to keep work moving safely and efficiently. To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • Proven experience leading crews in a civil, roading, greenspace or infrastructure environment
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise work effectively
  • A proactive and confident leadership style, with the ability to motivate and support your team
  • Solid communication skills, with the ability to engage with crews, management and clients
  • A strong commitment to health and safety

Licences & Requirements:

  • Class 2 licence and WTR endorsements (preferred)
  • Flexibility to participate in after-hours call-out roster
