Civil Foreperson - Wellington
We are seeking an experienced Foreperson to join our Wellington team – a hands-on leader who leads from the front and isn’t afraid to jump on the tools.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of day-to-day operations while working alongside your crew, operating machinery (including diggers) and driving high-quality outcomes safely and efficiently.
You’ll play a key role in delivering work to programme, budget, and Downer’s high safety and quality standards, working closely with Supervisors and management to keep projects moving.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, mentoring and developing onsite crews
- Planning, organising and coordinating daily work activities
- Operating plant (including diggers) and supporting hands-on delivery where required
- Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
- Running toolbox meetings and driving a strong safety-first culture
- Monitoring productivity and adjusting plans to meet programme targets
- Communicating effectively with Supervisors, Managers and clients
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Foreperson, or a strong Leading Hand ready to step up, who enjoys a balance of leadership and being on the tools.

- Proven experience leading crews in a civil, roading, greenspace or infrastructure environment
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise work effectively
- A proactive and confident leadership style, with the ability to motivate and support your team
- Solid communication skills, with the ability to engage with crews, management and clients
- A strong commitment to health and safety
Licences & Requirements:
- Class 2 licence and WTR endorsements (preferred)
- Flexibility to participate in after-hours call-out roster
