Summary

Alpha Inc., a Hawaii heavy civil construction company, is hiring a Civil Project Manager (PM II or III level) in Oahu to lead multiple construction projects — owning safety, schedule, budgets, contracts, forecasts, and client relationships while coaching Project Engineers (and, at PM III, other Project Managers).

The Opportunity

Build the Work. Lead the People. Own the Outcome.

Alpha Inc. is looking for a Civil Project Manager who knows that managing construction is about seeing problems before they become expensive. Knowing your numbers. Building trust with the field. Having the tough conversation with a client. Developing the people coming up behind you. And when something goes sideways—as it inevitably does in construction—taking ownership and figuring out the next move.

We’re open to hiring this person at either the Project Manager II or Project Manager III level.

The title will follow the talent.

If you’re an accomplished PM ready to lead multiple projects and develop Project Engineers, you may be our PM II.

If you’re already leading complex, high-risk work, developing other Project Managers, navigating major contractual and financial issues, and making the entire operation better—not just your own projects—you may be our PM III.

We’re not looking for someone who simply keeps projects moving.

We’re looking for someone who makes projects—and the people running them—better.

About Alpha Inc.

Alpha Inc. is a Hawai?i-grown company delivering heavy civil construction, drilling, energy, and infrastructure work that helps build the future of our islands.

How we get there matters just as much as what we build.

Our three core values aren't wall art. They're how we expect our leaders to operate:

Leading with Heart – Lead people with humility, respect, accountability, and a genuine commitment to their success.

Strength in Unity – Office and field. Operations and Estimating. PM and Superintendent. Client and contractor. Great projects happen when talented people operate as one team.

Alpha Mentality – Own it. Solve it. Improve it. Bring grit, accountability, and the drive to raise the standard.

That same values-forward approach anchors Alpha’s leadership recruiting, and this role brings it directly to Civil Operations.

What You'll Own

  • This role sits at the intersection of people, projects, money, clients, and execution.
  • You’ll lead multiple crews, projects, and/or major scopes while maintaining control of safety, schedule, quality, cost, resources, risk, and client expectations.
  • You’ll partner closely with Superintendents and field leadership to make sure manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production plans are aligned before problems hit the job.
  • You’ll own the financial pulse of your work—budgets, forecasts, cost projections, change orders, procurement, contracts, cash flow considerations, and risk exposure.
  • You'll lead client meetings and difficult conversations with confidence. You'll identify risk early, drive corrective action, and protect both the project and Alpha.
  • And you'll develop people.

At the PM II level, that means formally coaching and developing Project Engineers while successfully leading multiple active work fronts.

At the PM III level, the leadership bar rises: you'll oversee highly complex or financially significant projects, develop Project Managers and Project Engineers, serve as an escalation point for major project issues, and help improve processes and performance across Civil Operations—not simply within your own portfolio.

Success in this role means:

  • Projects perform. Safety, quality, schedule, cost, profitability, and client commitments aren't competing priorities—you manage all of them.
  • Forecasts mean something. You understand where your projects are headed financially and identify exposure before it becomes a surprise.
  • The field and office operate as one team. Your Superintendent shouldn't have to chase you, and you shouldn't have to chase the field for information.
  • Risks get surfaced early. Contract issues, schedule impacts, cost exposure, procurement problems, and client concerns are managed proactively.
  • Clients trust you. You communicate clearly, negotiate professionally, and don't disappear when the conversation gets difficult.
  • People get better around you. Project Engineers—and at the PM III level, Project Managers—grow because you set expectations, coach, challenge, and develop them.
  • You leave the operation stronger than you found it. Better systems. Better communication. Better forecasting. Better execution. Better leaders.

Which Level Are You?

Project Manager II

  • You’ve moved beyond learning how to manage a project and have demonstrated that you can successfully manage multiple projects, teams, or major scopes simultaneously.
  • The underlying PM II profile calls for 1–3 years of successful performance as a Project Manager I or equivalent construction management experience, demonstrated financial and operational results, people leadership experience, and strong command of civil construction operations, cost control, scheduling, contracts, forecasting, and risk management.

Project Manager III

  • You're operating at a different altitude.
  • You're capable of leading large, complex, high-risk or high-visibility work while also leading other project professionals. You're comfortable with claims, complex contracts, negotiations, significant cost exposure, organizational processes, and executive-level conversations.

The underlying PM III profile calls for 5 years of successful performance as a Project Manager II or equivalent heavy civil leadership experience, including demonstrated success managing multiple projects and/or Project Managers, developing future leaders, improving profitability or operational systems, and handling sophisticated financial and contractual risk.

The People Who Thrive Here

  • You don't need someone standing over you telling you what needs to happen next.
  • You know your numbers—and when the numbers aren't right, you dig until you understand why.
  • You respect the expertise of the people building the work.
  • You can challenge someone without tearing them down.
  • You don't hide bad news.
  • You don't confuse activity with results.
  • And you're not interested in protecting your turf. You want the entire team to win.

If your definition of project management is forwarding emails, updating schedules, and waiting for someone else to solve the hard problems, this probably isn't your role.

If you want real ownership—and expect to be held accountable for what you own—keep reading.

Why Alpha?

Because the work matters.

You’ll have the opportunity to lead challenging civil projects in Hawai?i while working alongside people who take pride in what they build and how they build it.

Alpha is serious about developing leaders, improving how we operate, and creating career paths for people who consistently perform.

For the right PM II, this is an opportunity to prove you're ready for bigger leadership.

For the right PM III, it's an opportunity to influence far more than an individual project.

Either way, we're looking for someone who wants to raise the bar.
