Civil - Senior Project Manager

The Opportunity

Alpha Inc. is looking for a Senior Project Manager for our Civil Division who knows that great project leadership isn’t just about managing schedules, budgets, and contracts.

It’s about building the people who build the projects.

This is not simply a bigger-project PM role. You’ll be a division-level leader responsible for developing Project Managers, raising the standard of execution, and creating consistency across multiple complex civil construction projects. You’ll help turn talented PMs into exceptional leaders — while making sure Alpha’s projects perform where it matters: safety, quality, schedule, financial results, and client satisfaction.

What You’ll Own

Build Project Managers Who Can Win

• Your biggest impact won’t be measured by how many problems you personally solve. It’ll be measured by how many leaders you develop who can solve them.
• You’ll lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers through regular coaching, performance management, career conversations, Individual Development Plans, and succession planning.
• You’ll also lead PM onboarding, training, mentoring, and calibration so that “excellent project management” means the same thing across the Civil team.

Raise the Bar on Project Execution

• You’ll provide leadership and oversight across multiple complex civil construction projects, helping PMs navigate challenges before those challenges become expensive surprises.
• You’ll maintain visibility into project financials, schedules, staffing, operational metrics, risk, and overall performance — while holding teams accountable for safety, quality, financial stewardship, and Alpha standards.

Build Systems That Scale

Heroics don’t scale. Great systems do.

• You’ll establish, implement, and continuously improve project management systems, workflows, standards, and best practices that create consistency across teams and projects.
• You’ll identify opportunities to eliminate friction, increase efficiency, improve profitability, strengthen client satisfaction, and make great execution repeatable.

Connect the Field and the Office

Great projects aren't delivered in silos.

• You’ll partner closely with Operations, Estimating, Safety, Human Resources, and executive leadership to improve communication, resource planning, workforce development, and project execution.
• You’ll help create tighter alignment between field operations and office leadership — because the best plan in the office means nothing if it doesn’t work in the field.

Think Beyond the Project in Front of You

• This role requires someone who can see around corners.
• You’ll support strategic planning, resource allocation, workload balancing, and longer-term organizational growth. You’ll help Alpha build the leadership bench, processes, and operating discipline necessary to grow without losing what makes us Alpha.

Strengthen Client & Partner Relationships

• You’ll build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and key stakeholders while supporting business development efforts.
• When Alpha’s name is attached to a project, expectations are high.
• Your job is to help make sure our execution earns that expectation.

What You Bring

We’re not looking for someone who has simply accumulated years in construction.

We’re looking for evidence of impact.

You bring:

• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of progressive Civil project management leadership experience, including direct supervision of Project Managers and oversight of multiple complex civil construction projects.
• A demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and lead high-performing Project Management teams.
• Proven experience implementing scalable systems, standardized processes, and operational improvements.
• Strong command of civil construction project management, including scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, contracts, procurement, and risk management.
• Experience navigating performance management, coaching, conflict resolution, difficult conversations, and talent development.
• Strong strategic thinking, organizational planning, communication, and decision-making skills.
• The ability to influence and build credibility from the jobsite to senior leadership.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software platforms.
• A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel between project sites and office locations as needed.
