About the Civilian Work Attachment

Cummins is proud to support the Armed Forces community through our Civilian Work Attachment (CWA) Programme, delivered in partnership with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP).

This two-week placement has been designed to help Service Leavers gain practical experience within a global engineering organisation, providing valuable insight into civilian industry while exploring how the skills developed during military service can be applied across engineering and manufacturing.

Working alongside experienced engineers, technicians and manufacturing professionals, you'll gain first-hand experience of how products are designed, built, tested and validated before reaching customers. The placement offers broad exposure to a range of technical disciplines, allowing you to explore different career pathways and discover where your skills and interests best fit within Cummins.

This opportunity is part of the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) Civilian Work Attachment Programme and is only open to candidates who are currently serving in the UK Armed Forces and are within their final 12 months of military service. About the Team

The Health, Safety and Environment team plays a critical role in creating a safe, healthy and sustainable workplace for everyone at Cummins. Working across manufacturing, engineering and test facilities, the team supports employees and contractors by promoting safe behaviours, managing risk and ensuring compliance with environmental and legislative requirements.

Throughout the placement, you'll gain an appreciation of how HSE professionals work collaboratively with operational teams to identify risks, drive continuous improvement and maintain a strong safety culture.

What You'll Experience

During your placement, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Learn how health, safety and environmental requirements are managed within a modern engineering and manufacturing environment.
  • Support risk assessment activities across engineering and test facilities.
  • Observe contractor management processes and site safety audits.
  • Develop an understanding of safe systems of work and how employees are coached to work safely.
  • Gain exposure to internationally recognised management systems, including ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management).

This placement is designed to provide meaningful exposure to the practical application of HSE principles, demonstrating how a positive safety culture supports both people and business performance.
