INTERNSHIP – Client Support & Resource Navigation Intern (Multi Services Center) Reports To: Designated PRAB Supervisor

Location: East Brunswick, New Jersey, with possible participation at PRAB program sites and community events throughout Middlesex County Type: Unpaid, educational internship for academic credit or completion of an approved university internship requirement | Approximately 12–20 hours per week, based on the student’s academic program | Fall, Spring, or Summer Semester

Educational Structure: This internship is designed as a supervised learning experience connected to the student’s academic and professional development. Interns will receive an individualized learning plan, regular supervision, structured feedback, and opportunities to connect assigned projects to their academic field. Interns will complement, rather than replace, the work of PRAB employees and will not independently perform duties requiring professional licensure, legal judgment, or final organizational authority.

Position Summary

The Client Support & Resource Navigation Intern helps PRAB’s Multi Services Center meet the day-to-day needs of low- and moderate-income Middlesex County residents whose needs fall outside of PRAB’s core programs. Interns assist clients with form completion, benefits access, basic service navigation, and resource referrals. Interns gain hands-on experience supporting individuals and families through diverse needs including health, housing, food security, employment, and referrals to qualified legal-service providers.

This internship is ideal for students pursuing Social Work, Human Services, Public Health, or Psychology who want to grow their skills in community-based systems, equity-focused service delivery, and social services navigation.

Internship Hours

15-30 hours/week, based on university program requirements and flexible across 2-4 days (between 9:00 am–5:00 pm). Must be available at least two consistent days per week. In-person participation is required.

Key Responsibilities

· Observe and assist trained MSC staff with client intake, guided needs assessments, and follow-up under direct supervision.

· Assist clients with basic applications and online forms under staff supervision and within established PRAB procedures.

· Interns may not provide legal, clinical, financial, eligibility, or benefits advice and may not represent that an application or referral will result in approval or services.

· Translate or write letters in English and Spanish (non-legal)

· Support clients in creating email accounts and accessing online portals

· Refer clients to partner agencies for legal, mental health, optometry, domestic violence, or financial assistance

· Update MSC’s Menu of Services and help compose an internal resource binder

· Help prepare outreach materials and follow up with clients from events

· Maintain client service logs using intake forms

· Participate in weekly supervision and case review with MSC staff

Internship Requirements

Selected interns must comply with PRAB’s confidentiality, technology, nondiscrimination, professional conduct, records-management, and safety requirements. Depending on the placement and level of client contact, completion of a background check, confidentiality agreement, mandated reporter training, or other program-specific onboarding may be required.

Ideal Candidate

· Bilingual in English and Spanish – highly preferred

· Student pursuing a degree or approved academic program

· Demonstrates cultural humility and the ability to work respectfully with diverse communities

· Strong communication and documentation skills

· Reliable, compassionate, and detail-oriented

· Familiar with Microsoft Office and internet-based service systems

Based on the intern’s academic requirements, interests, and the needs of the organization, the internship may include completion of a supervised capstone project such as:

1. Middlesex County Community Resource Guide identifying verified health, housing, food, employment, legal-service, benefits, and family-support resources, including eligibility information and referral procedures.

2. Client Resource Navigation Toolkit containing supervised intake prompts, referral checklists, follow-up templates, and plain-language information sheets for common client needs.

3. Community Needs and Referral Trends Brief summarizing recurring client needs, service gaps, referral patterns, and recommendations for strengthening PRAB’s resource-navigation services.
