GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Clinic Assistant supports the department by performing a variety of clerical and patient care tasks. This position reports to a Director or Manager in Radiation Therapy, Systemic Therapy and Outpatient Services, Clinical Research, or Provincial Programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Grade 12
  • Medical Office Assistant Certificate (OR) Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate (OR) Office Administrative Assistant Certificate including Medical Terminology (OR)

  • Completion of one (1) full clinical placement component of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Radiation Therapy program.

Experience:

  • No previous experience required

Skills:

  • Ability to type proficiently.
  • Competent in the use of computers and Microsoft applications.
  • Required to follow established methods when performing duties.
  • Some judgment and problem-solving skills are required to select the most appropriate action from a limited number of alternatives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate factual information both verbally and in writing.
  • Human relations skills required to empathize with complaints and/or concerns and establish rapport with patients, the public and other staff.
  • Accuracy of fine motor movements for typing/data entry.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Knowledge of culturally responsive care for First Nations and Métis people.
