Clinical Lead - Senior Psychologist

The Kaiwhakamātau Hinengaro Matua | Lead Psychologist – Clinical Lead is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing Better Days’ ACC Psychology Services contract. This role provides both clinical and operational leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychological services across the team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced psychologist to step into a leadership role where you will mentor, supervise, and upskill a growing team of junior psychologists while maintaining a meaningful client caseload.

• Provide clinical leadership and oversight of psychological services under the ACC contract
• Deliver comprehensive psychological assessments for clients with complex injuries across home, community, and clinic settings
• Provide evidence-based psychological interventions using modalities such as CBT, EMDR, ACT, DBT, MI, Schema Therapy, CPT, PE, and mindfulness-based approaches
• Apply trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and strengths-based frameworks in all clinical work
• Lead clinical supervision, mentoring, and capability development of junior psychologists
• Ensure quality assurance, clinical governance, and contract compliance across all service delivery
• Contribute to interdisciplinary collaboration and coordinated care planning
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and ACC reporting requirements
• Support service development, policy review, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Identify training needs and deliver structured upskilling for junior clinicians
  

Experience needed for this role

• This role will suit an experienced Psychologist who is confident working independently across community, clinic, and home-based settings, while also contributing to a senior clinical leadership function within an interdisciplinary team. Strong experience within ACC Psychological Services is highly valued.
• Experience working across comprehensive psychological assessment, formulation, treatment planning, intervention, review, and outcome-focused reporting for clients with complex injury presentations.
• Experience supporting clients with injury-related and trauma-related presentations, including pain, disability, concussion, neurological injury, adjustment difficulties, and broader psychosocial needs.
• Confidence delivering evidence-based psychological interventions, with the ability to adapt approaches such as CBT, ACT, EMDR, DBT, and related modalities to suit client goals, cultural context, whānau involvement, and functional recovery needs.
• Strong report writing and clinical communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical recommendations for clients, whānau, ACC, and other stakeholders.
• Experience in supervision, mentoring, or supporting junior clinicians is highly regarded, along with familiarity with ACC Psychology Services and rehabilitation or community-based practice.
  

Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctoral qualification in Psychology (or equivalent recognised qualification)
• Current registration with the relevant professional psychology board/body
• ACC Psychology Services full approval
• Current practising certificate
• Professional Indemnity Insurance
• The ability to work autonomously providing in-home and community-based support
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice
• Alignment with Better Days’ values
• Availability to travel Auckland wide
• A current full New Zealand driver licence and access to your own car
• Evidence of your right to work in New Zealand
