Clinical Leader Patient Services (RN)

Southeast Georgia Health System is seeking a dedicated Clinical Leader (RN) to provide direct care on a patient care unit to the unit's specific patient population. The Clinical Leader has accountability for the daily coordination of patient flow and care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Leader serves a pivotal role in creating a culture of safety and reducing risks to patients by coordinating and facilitating unit activities to deliver quality care based on standards and evidence based practice.
  • Performs daily tasks of the unit, as delegated, including appropriate staffing and scheduling, daily communications, materials management, and patient/bed control. As the leader in charge of daily patient flow, expedites pro-active and anticipatory triaging of patients to include communication with House Manager/Bed Board Nurse Manager, Emergency Department and Unit Secretary with regard to bed availability and assignments.
  • Fulfills all the duties of the Registered Nurse job description, to include an appropriate patient assignment that allows for assisting other team members.
  • Demonstrates a global vision of the unit(s) that addresses staffing issues, patient conditions, and environmental issues that impinge on patient safety and care. Plans for staffing needs based on patient acuity. Assists in planning staffing requirements for next shift, day and week and corrects noted deficiencies based on the unit(s) specific staffing efficiency patterns. Utilizes process improvement principles to assess and improve the quality of patient care.
  • Develops collaborative relationships with physicians to enhance quality practice. Develops and maintains sound intradepartmental and interdepartmental working relationships with team members, and management. Acts to resolve issues in a timely manner. Investigates unusual occurrences and follows appropriate reporting procedure.
  • Assists with the implementation of unit plans and programs as well as staff education. Participates in clinical leadership development and performance advancement of unit staff through appropriate mentoring, and coaching.
  • Facilitates and monitors compliance with established standards, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Serves as the unit resource for policy, procedure, and regulatory requirements: National Patient Safety Goals, Core Measures, State and Joint Commission.
  • Participates in financial management and maintenance within prescribed budget parameters.
  • Monitors workflow, productivity and daily resource utilization.
  • Role models professional growth and development through participation in educational programs. Identifies needs and sets goals for own professional growth and development, meets all mandatory system/departmental educational requirements. Assimilates knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, seminars, and professional literature into practice. Develops mechanisms that facilitate transmission of new knowledge to other team members.
  • Participates in the development of, and assists with implementation of an education plan that addresses individual team member and unit needs.
  • Assists Nurse Manager with team member interviewing and selection, development/mentoring, coaching, corrective actions, and performance evaluations. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, assumes clinical and managerial accountability for the unit(s).
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the unit(s)/organization.

Qualifications

Education
  • Graduate of a National League for Nursing (NLN) approved Diploma, Associate Degree Program, or BSN required. BSN preferred.
Licensure
  • Current RN license to practice in the state of Georgia
Experience
  • 1 year RN experience required
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • National certification as clinically appropriate preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification required within the first week of orientation and maintained throughout employment
  • ACLS, PALS, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR) if applicable to area within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment
  • Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures and regulatory standards
  • Demonstration of leadership skills
