An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse – Anaesthetics to join our Perioperative Services team.

As a Clinical Nurse, you will provide expert clinical leadership while supporting the Clinical Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Coordinators and multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional perioperative care. You will be instrumental in mentoring staff, promoting evidence-based practice, driving quality improvement initiatives and supporting the ongoing development of anaesthetic nursing services.

This role is suited to an experienced anaesthetic nurse who thrives in a complex tertiary environment and is passionate about education, innovation and delivering outstanding patient care.

What you’ll do:

  • Deliver high-quality anaesthetic nursing care for patients undergoing complex surgical procedures.

  • Mentor, coach and support Registered Nurses, AAAHP’s, graduates and new staff to develop clinical capability and confidence.

  • Act as a clinical resource for complex anaesthetic cases and challenging airway management.

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and competence in awake fibreoptic intubation procedures and difficult airway management.

  • Develop and maintain competency in Cell Saver technology, with the ability to independently manage Cell Saver cases or actively work towards competency.

  • Ensure anaesthetic equipment, medications and consumables are available, maintained and prepared to support efficient operating theatre workflows.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits and evidence-based practice projects to enhance patient safety and service delivery.

  • Support the implementation of new equipment, technology and clinical practice improvements.

  • Collaborate closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, perioperative leadership and the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, professional development and patient-centred care.

What makes a difference for us?

  • Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) with current AHPRA registration.

  • Minimum two years' experience in anaesthetic nursing within an acute perioperative environment.

  • Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing (Anaesthetics) is highly desirable, or a commitment to working towards postgraduate study.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting cardiac, thoracic and paediatric surgical services.

  • Competency in Cell Saver technology is highly desirable, or a demonstrated commitment to achieving competency.

  • Proven experience managing complex anaesthetic cases, including awake fibreoptic intubation and difficult airway procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, educate and support junior staff, graduates and colleagues in the clinical environment.

  • Experience participating in quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance activities and evidence-based practice.

  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.

  • Commitment to delivering safe, patient-centred care and maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice.

  • Availability to participate in an on-call roster.
