Job Summary
The Clinical RN Coordinator will assess patients physical and emotional status, past health history and health practices by demonstrating effective communication skills with patients, significant others and members of the multidisciplinary health care team. Will assess family and patients understanding of disease and disease processed. Will be familiar with all oncology treatments with ability to educate patients on treatments and will provide education to patient and family. The Clinical RN Coordinator is accountable for maintaining his/her clinical competence in reaching the defined standards of care for the area of nursing practice. This position is responsible for Radiation Oncology and PET CT related nursing duties.


Essential Functions

  • Demonstrates the required job specific technical/professional knowledge, skills and abilities. *

  • Assess patient’s physical and emotional status, past health history, health practices.
  • Assess family and patients understanding of disease and disease process.
  • Familiar with all oncology treatments including PET CT preparation with the ability to educate patients on treatments and exam prep readiness.
  • Assess the results and implications of all relevant laboratory, pathology and imaging studies.
  • Provide education to patient and family so that patient and family can:

    Be able to describe the disease and treatment at a level consistent with family educational and emotional state

    Participate in decision making process pertaining to plan of care and activities

    Identify appropriate community resources to provide education and services

    Describe appropriate actions for highly predictable outcomes, oncologic emergencies and major side effects of disease and/or therapeutic and/or diagnostic treatment.

    Describe the schedule of on-going therapy

    Prep patient for Diagnostic exams such as PET CT.

    Review labs and medication pre and post PET CT.

  • Coordinate care with multiple complex technologies.
  • Provides phone communication with patients prior to exam to review patient regarding exam readiness and prep patient.
  • Assess and report needs to other team members as to the need for supportive care

  • Adept at entering required information in EMR.
  • Complete all necessary forms and other documents necessary for patient care such disability, letters of medical necessity, prior authorizations and REM programs.
  • Assist in research program.
  • Review new patient charts and prepare necessary documentation for consult such as lab work, radiology, etc.
  • Takes initial history and nursing assessment and prepare medication lists.
  • Reviews all medical and medication history prior to PET CT exam.
  • Coordinate prescription refills and notify patients of testing results when appropriate.
  • Manages the side effects of cancer treatments and manages pain related to such treatments.
  • Monitors vital signs of patients.
  • Coordinating the patient’s care with all other providers related to the patient’s care

  • Qualifications
  • Associate Degree Required or Bachelor Degree Required

  • Bi-lingual/fluent in Spanish preferred
  • Registered Nurse New York - New York State Board of Nursing Required
  • BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association Required
