Cloud & DevOps Specialist

Job Description
Reporting to the Head of IT Operations & Cloud, the Cloud & DevOps Specialist helps maintain, secure, automate, and improve Montrium’s Microsoft Azure environments. The role supports the established Connect platform by strengthening cloud operations, infrastructure delivery, monitoring, access controls, and operational reliability in close collaboration with Architecture, Development, Product, Quality, Customer Experience, and Security teams.
As a member of the IT Operations & Cloud team, your work will focus on the following areas:
Azure Administration
- Administer Montrium’s Microsoft Azure subscriptions, management groups, resource groups, identities, compute, storage, networking, databases, and platform services.
- Administer Azure networking components, including virtual networks, subnets, network security groups, private endpoints, DNS, load-balancing services, VPN connectivity, and firewalls.
- Maintain Azure virtual machines and platform services, including configuration, patching, upgrades, scaling, backup protection, and lifecycle management.
- Plan and perform technical implementations and the rollout of new Azure services, cloud capabilities, infrastructure standards, and deployment technologies.
- Monitor Azure consumption, identify cost anomalies, and recommend rightsizing, scheduling, retention, and resource optimization improvements.
Infrastructure as Code and Automation
- Provision and configure Azure infrastructure using reusable, modular, and parameterized Bicep templates.
- Maintain Bicep modules, parameter files, naming conventions, tagging standards, and environment-specific configurations in Git repositories.
- Automate recurring cloud administration and deployment activities using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep, and Azure DevOps.
- Review existing manual processes and replace them with secure, documented, and maintainable automation.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities, including backups, restores, failover procedures, recovery testing, and infrastructure rebuilding through Bicep.
CI/CD and Release Management
- Integrate Bicep deployments into Azure DevOps YAML pipelines to provide repeatable and controlled infrastructure delivery.
- Implement validation, linting, what-if analysis, deployment approvals, and automated verification within infrastructure pipelines.
- Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines for applications, configuration, and infrastructure across development, quality assurance, staging, and production environments.
- Manage Azure DevOps repositories, branching strategies, pull requests, pipeline templates, artifacts, service connections, environments, approvals, and release controls.
Security and Governance
- Configure and maintain Microsoft Entra ID integrations, managed identities, service principals, Azure role-based access control, and least-privilege access.
- Apply and maintain Azure governance controls, including Azure Policy, resource locks, tagging, diagnostic settings, naming standards, and compliance requirements.
- Manage secrets, certificates, and keys securely using Azure Key Vault and approved pipeline integrations.
- Support platform identity and access needs for Montrium’s cloud environments, including role-based access configuration, environment access requests, service accounts, and access-related troubleshooting, while coordinating with corporate IT where broader IT processes or controls are involved.
- Contribute to DevSecOps practices by incorporating security checks, protected credentials, controlled access, and compliance requirements into infrastructure and delivery pipelines.
Monitoring and Operations
- Monitor the health, availability, performance, and capacity of Azure resources using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, alerts, and dashboards.
- Troubleshoot deployment failures, infrastructure issues, access problems, network connectivity, resource performance, and service availability.
- Support incident response, troubleshooting, post-incident analysis, and corrective actions affecting Azure services and deployment processes.
- Support customer-impacting operational investigations by providing technical analysis, infrastructure insight, and resolution support to Customer Experience and internal product delivery teams.
- Participate in a rotational on-call schedule, including after-hours support when required, for Montrium’s SaaS solutions.
- Support related on-premises platform infrastructure, including SharePoint Server Subscription Edition environments, with a focus on monitoring, patching, backup, troubleshooting, and operational continuity.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, including configuration specifications, deployment procedures, operating procedures, architecture records, change controls, and recovery runbooks.
Operational Excellence
- Participate in IT Operations & Cloud planning to achieve business objectives through reliable, secure, automated, and scalable cloud services.
- Help define and maintain standards for Azure administration, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, source control, and CI/CD.
- Improve service reliability, availability, and operational maturity through disciplined cloud operations and continuous improvement.
- Proactively identify configuration drift, technical debt, non-conformances, security risks, and opportunities for automation or standardization.
- Promote reusable patterns and consistent operating practices across Azure environments.
- Keep current with Azure, DevOps, IaC, cybersecurity, and cloud governance trends.
- Ensure that cloud operations and deployment activities comply with applicable company policies, regulatory requirements, security controls, and legal guidelines.
- Support audits and provide technical evidence related to infrastructure configuration, deployment history, access control, monitoring, backup, and change management.
Collaborative Engineering Culture
- Share knowledge, support team learning, and contribute to a collaborative engineering environment.
- Work across Architecture, Development, Product, Quality, Customer Experience, and Security to align technical decisions with platform reliability, delivery control, and operational support needs.
- Communicate planned changes, operational risks, dependencies, implementation trade-offs, deployment outcomes, and support issues clearly.
- Participate in peer reviews, design discussions, troubleshooting activities, and continuous improvement initiatives involving scripts, Bicep templates, pipelines, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrate accountability, curiosity, initiative, and respect for sustainable work practices.
Required Qualifications
- College diploma, university degree, or equivalent practical experience in information technology, computer science, cloud administration, systems administration, or a related field.
- Five or more years of experience in infrastructure, systems administration, cloud operations, or DevOps, including at least three years of hands-on Microsoft Azure experience.
- Hands-on experience with core Azure services, including compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, backup, and governance.
- Strong experience designing, creating, and deploying Infrastructure as Code using reusable Azure Bicep modules and environment-specific configurations.
- Strong experience building and maintaining Azure DevOps YAML pipelines for application, configuration, and infrastructure delivery.
- Working experience with Git, pull requests, branching strategies, code reviews, release controls, and versioned infrastructure.
- Strong automation experience with PowerShell, plus working experience with Azure CLI.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, managed identities, service principals, Azure role-based access control, single sign-on, and multifactor authentication.
- Experience monitoring and troubleshooting Azure environments using tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, alerts, and dashboards.
- Experience with Azure networking, Azure Policy, Key Vault, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity concepts.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, operating procedures, configuration specifications, change records, and recovery runbooks.
- Understanding of DevOps, DevSecOps, Agile, incident management, and software development lifecycle practices.
Additional Qualifications (That Would Help You Succeed)
- Linux administration experience.
- Experience with Azure SQL, Storage, App Service, Functions, Kubernetes, and other Azure platform services.
- Experience in a SaaS, regulated, pharmaceutical, or life sciences environment.
- Experience supporting SharePoint Server Subscription Edition or similar on-premises Microsoft platform infrastructure.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate.
- Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Azure Security Engineer Associate.
