Cloud Engineer – Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Work Location: 100% Remote (Requires travel to Fort Lee, VA at least three times annually or more frequently if directed)
- Security Clearance: Active U.S. DoD Secret Required (Time of Application)
- Experience Metric: 12+ Years of Documented Cloud, Migration, or Platform Engineering
We are seeking an enterprise Cloud Engineer–SME to architect, deploy, and maintain advanced enterprise data, analytics, and pipeline infrastructures within secured defense parameters. The ideal candidate must possess an extensive professional chronology demonstrating 12+ years of continuous technology engineering work starting no later than August 2014. This timeline should showcase a clear evolution from early-generation cloud infrastructure, virtualization, or large-scale migrations into specialized Microsoft Azure ecosystems supporting Azure Government, cArmy, and Impact Level 5/6 environments.
This expert will drive cloud-native ingestion, enterprise data virtualization, cross-domain connection mechanisms, and robust automated landing zones to ingest mission-critical Army data assets cleanly.
Mandatory Compliance Metrics (Pre-Screening Gate)
Candidates must satisfy these chronological constraints to ensure a successful Government QVF determination:
- Chronological Proof Gate: Resume must explicitly reflect 12+ continuous years of total engineering experience with clear dates validating cloud, virtualization, or enterprise infrastructure work starting in August 2014 or earlier.
- Cloud Domain Focus: Direct, hands-on production engineering within Azure Government, cArmy, or highly restricted federal enclaves under DoD IL5/IL6 compliance frameworks.
- Architecture & Landing Zones: Design, configure, and maintain production-grade cloud landing zones, advanced enterprise network topographies, and zero-trust identity architectures within restricted DoD cloud nodes.
- Data Pipeline Construction: Build, test, and maintain resilient enterprise ETL/ELT pipelines for complex synchronization, data ingestion, and multi-source transformation frameworks using Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Automate the entire infrastructure lifecycle using cloud-native declarative paradigms (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates) to enforce strict configuration consistency and eliminate manual drifts.
- Secrets & Security Enforcement: Implement least-privilege cloud governance models using Azure Key Vault to handle complex encryption keys, dynamic application connections, API access tokens, and systemic cryptographic profiles.
- API Management & Services: Standardize system integration layers by designing, routing, and securing REST APIs and backend microservices via Azure API Management environments.
- Monitoring & Observability: Engineer end-to-end audit readiness pipelines, custom metric dashboards, proactive system alerting arrays, and security logging via cloud-native monitoring systems.
- Expert-level Azure Architecture design patterns (Hub-Spoke models, ExpressRoute, Secure Cloud Computing Architecture).
- Production execution of Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and structured Data Lake environments.
- Advanced deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise, or comparable automated CI/CD toolsets.
- Direct experience operating inside Azure Government, cArmy, or federal GCC High spaces.
- Comprehensive mastery of DoD/Army Architecture Standards and DoD Impact Level 5 (IL5) and 6 (IL6) controls.
- Familiarity building or integrating cloud layers for GCSS-Army, NLAC, or Army G4 logistics modules.
- Prior architecture exposure to Strategic Enterprise Analytics (SEA) or comparable enterprise military data-lake structures.
- Deep functional understanding of defense analytics pipelines, military logistics platforms, or supply-chain telemetry data sets.
