Cluster Director of Engineering- Six Senses Rome and Milan (Based in Milan)- New Hotel Opening

Duties and Responsibilities

As Cluster Director of Engineering, I will assume full responsibility for the efficient operation of the Engineering departments including landscape and gardening, plant and equipment, technical work, carpentry, sustainability, fire and safety systems and a preventative maintenance program to provide exceptional products and services within brand operating standards.

The duties and responsibilities will include:

• Continually focus on improving maintenance and engineering practices to ensure the product remains in optimal order and in line with Six Senses wellness and sustainability practices.

• Ensure that rostering and manning are adequate to meet the requirements, plus organize external contractors as required.

• Instil a cost-focused philosophy through training and education.

• Technical skills that include the ability to analyze and design projects, conduct investigations and maintaining full knowledge of engineering-related products and services used in resorts.

• Establish and deliver pre-established financial returns related to revenue generation, profitability and ROIC.

• Operate the properties consistent with all legal, statutory and financial requirements and documentation, reporting systems, contractual obligations, security and safety protocols, communications, product and service standards, host management practices and budgetary controls are implemented, reviewed and maintained to ensure the successful operation of the hotels.

• Coordinate Engineering priorities across Six Senses Rome and Milan, ensuring consistent technical standards and service delivery while addressing the operational needs of each property.

• Coordinate statutory inspections, technical certifications, fire-prevention records and other mandatory engineering documentation in line with applicable Italian legislation and local authority requirements.

• Prepare and monitor Engineering operating budgets and capital expenditure (CAPEX) plans, presenting investment priorities and asset protection recommendations to the General Manager, Finance teams and ownership representatives.

• Monitor energy and water consumption and implement measurable efficiency initiatives in collaboration with the Sustainability teams, in line with Six Senses sustainability commitments.

• Develop Engineering leaders and teams across both properties through coaching, technical training, succession planning and knowledge sharing.

• Monitor technical service agreements and contractor performance, and coordinate emergency preparedness and business continuity testing across the cluster.

• Support and lead the pre-opening and operational readiness of Six Senses Milan.

Qualifications

To execute the position of Cluster Director of Engineering, I must have the required qualifications, technical skills and experience in a similar role in luxury hotels with proven results and includes the following:

• Possess some college or advanced vocational training and six years of experience in general building maintenance and/or construction and supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, in either Mechanical or Electrical disciplines, and more than ten years’ experience in a similar hotel engineering role, preferred.

• Professional certification and license if required by law.

• Specialized expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields. Level 3 EPA Certification, HVAC and refrigeration certificate, licensed plumber and/or journeyman status for electrician and carpenter may be required.

• Fluent in English and Italian.

• Previous experience in a cluster or multi-property Engineering leadership role within luxury hospitality is highly desirable.

• Strong knowledge of Italian building regulations, fire safety, occupational health and safety, and statutory technical compliance requirements.

• Proven experience in managing Engineering budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventive maintenance programmes and external service providers.

• Experience with hotel pre-opening, technical commissioning, handover processes and building management systems (BMS) is highly desirable.

• Strong leadership, financial acumen, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate teams and priorities across two properties.

• Ability and willingness to travel regularly between Rome and Milan according to operational requirements.

• Legal right to work in Italy.
