CMF Engineer

Open 23d

Summary

Designs and implements material systems for consumer tech products, selecting finishes, colors, and manufacturing processes to meet production and aesthetic standards.

Yandex is looking for a highly experienced CMF (Color, Material, and Finish) Engineer to transform design intent into robust material specifications, production-ready standards, and world-class product identity material systems. Apply if you have a relevant Bachelor’s degree or higher and 8+ years of relevant experience.CMF engineering and material development
Translate CMF design concepts into technically feasible and production-ready solutions, selecting optimal materials and finishes, developing material stacks and surface treatment strategies, and defining tolerances, texture standards, gloss levels, and color control methods. Continuous material innovation and technology scouting
Proactively research emerging materials, coatings, and surface technologies, and build relationships with suppliers, evaluate and test new materials for scalability and production readiness, introduce innovative CMF solutions, maintain a forward-looking material roadmap aligned with product strategy, and ensure the continuous advancement of CMF standards. Material management (plastic, metal, soft materials)
Optimize injection molding, die casting, and fabric manufacturing. PI standards and system building
Develop and maintain CMF PI standards at a global benchmark level by creating material libraries and technical specification documents, defining acceptance criteria and QC standards, establishing cross-supplier consistency systems, and collaborating with the design, sourcing, and quality teams. Factory management and negotiation
Drive factories toward higher aesthetic and quality standards by troubleshooting production issues on site, conducting material validation and pilot runs, and ensuring consistency from NPI to mass production.* Have earned a Bachelor’s degree or higher in material science, polymer engineering, chemical engineering, surface engineering, textile engineering, mechanical engineering (with an emphasis on materials), or industrial design engineering, giving you a strong academic foundation in material properties, surface treatments, manufacturing processes, and quality control systems * Have 8+ years of experience in CMF engineering, material engineering, or advanced manufacturing, including strong hands-on experience with plastics, metals, textiles, silicones, and coatings * Have introduced new materials into mass production * Have worked directly with Shenzhen/Guangdong suppliers * Have developed global-level product finish standards * Deeply understand color science (LAB, ΔE control, gloss units, texture standards) * Can read and create technical documentation in English, with at least Upper-Intermediate proficiency* A Master’s degree in material science, advanced manufacturing, surface engineering, or a related technical discipline * Formal coursework or research in coating technology, polymer chemistry, metallurgy, textile technology, or material durability testing * International academic exposure or experience working with global brands
