Senior COBOL Software Engineer
Location: Brussels (Hybrid)
Languages: Fluent Dutch and English (C1)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior COBOL Software Engineer to join a team responsible for developing and maintaining mission-critical mainframe applications. You will play a key role in the analysis, design, development, testing, and support of backend systems while collaborating closely with both business and IT stakeholders. This position offers the opportunity to work in a complex, international environment where reliability, quality, and continuous improvement are essential.
Requirements
Mandatory
- Minimum 5 years of experience in COBOL development.
- Strong experience in mainframe environments.
- Good knowledge of COBOL, PL/1, EGL, and DB2.
- Experience with IBM IDz Workbench.
- Experience with CI/CD processes, GitHub, and Changeman.
- Ability to translate business requirements into functional and technical solutions.
- Experience creating and executing test cases.
- Experience with application maintenance, incident resolution, and defect management.
- Experience performing code reviews and ensuring development quality standards.
- Knowledge of integration testing and interfacing applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend applications in a mainframe environment.
- Create program structures based on technical designs.
- Develop, execute, and maintain test cases.
- Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards.
- Resolve incidents and defects and follow them through to closure.
- Execute technical integration testing with interfacing applications.
- Update technical and design documentation when required.
- Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Participate in production support and on-call activities when needed.
