Collections and Registration Senior Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

The Senior Manager for Collections and Registration is responsible for the delivery of day-to-day collections management operations for the organization's collections. Under the direction of the Collections Care Director, this role ensures that the collections are managed legally and maintained to agreed collections management procedures to enhance the institution's reputation and meet the needs of various stakeholders, including exhibitions researchers, donors, and the public.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Implementation of collection & acquisition strategy and annual business plan
  • Day-to-day implementation of collections management policy and procedures
  • Day-to-day management of the organizational collections in line with collections management policies and procedures
  • Support the development of collection policies and procedures in line with approved departmental policies and procedures
  • Manage and undertake the acquisition, loan, documentation, and deaccession process for collection items.
  • Manages day-to-day registrar activities with the Documentation Manager
  • Provide support in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for the collections that aligns with the institution’s overall mission and goals.
  • Development and implementation of strategic plan for collections management
  • Monitor and report on the performance of the collections against strategic objectives to line manager
  • Day to day management of the collections management team, including registrars, and support staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities.
  • Encourage and support research and scholarship related to the collections.
  • Digital Asset Management: work to the collections care work programs to deliver the digitization of the physical collection for preservation, education and research access.
  • CMS Oversight: work with the Documentation and Archive Manager to ensure the CMS implements all Collections Management policy and procedure.
  • Ensure use of CMS in line with policy and procedure by all collection staff.
  • Manage daily operations of the storage and maintain compliance and high standards and ensure a safe environment for the collections.
  • Storage Strategy: Ensure long-term storage solutions, including off-site facilities and high-density storage optimization are implemented as part of work plans for department

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Museology, Art History, Archaeology, Library Science, or Bachelor’s degree in science
  • Master’s degree in science is preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in same field.
