The Collections Representative is responsible for managing collection activities for the bank's retail loan portfolio, including Freddie Mac and other secondary market mortgage loans, portfolio mortgage loans, home equity products, direct and indirect consumer loans, and other retail lending programs. This role works to minimize delinquency and credit risk through effective account management, customer communication, payment arrangement negotiation, and resolution of delinquent loan accounts. The position also supports portfolio performance by assisting in the development and execution of collection strategies and recommending appropriate actions, including repossessions, foreclosures, legal proceedings, or referral to third-party collection agencies when necessary.

In addition to collection responsibilities, the Collections Representative ensures compliance with bank policies, secondary market investor requirements, and all applicable state and federal regulations. The role is responsible for completing required reporting for Freddie Mac and other secondary market investors within established deadlines, maintaining accurate documentation of collection efforts, and staying current on collection practices, regulatory requirements, and servicing guidelines. Through collaboration with department leadership, this position helps maintain acceptable delinquency levels, protect bank assets, and supports the overall quality and performance of the loan portfolio.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant secondary education or a combination of education and experience preferred
  • Previous banking and/or financial service industry experience required; prior collection experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills
