Position Summary:

The Commercial and Industrial (C & I) Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing daily operations efficiently, accurately and safely in a high volume and fast paced distribution environment. This role includes optimizing processes, improving efficiency, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing resources, and leading a team to achieve operational excellence. This role involves utilizing Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) principles to ensure seamless processes, foster leadership, drive accountability, and implement effective management strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operations management, with experience in commercial and industrial settings, with a strong emphasis on transportation, distribution, cross-docking and overall warehouse management and possess the ability to drive strategic initiatives to support business growth and best practices in customer service. Essential Position Functions and Responsibilities:

Leadership:

Management:

  • Operational Excellence: Accountable for overseeing C & I daily and monthly operations, ensuring all activities are aligned with company goals and objectives to meet or exceed profitability targets, effectively control expenses and oversee quality assurance programs to maintain high standards consistently. Create, implement, and optimize standardized processes and systems to enhance efficiency and productivity. Continuously identify areas for process improvement. Recognize and correct potential process errors before actions adversely affect the customer. Consistently deliver results by meeting or exceeding operational targets, project deadlines, and budget constraints.

  • Regular in Field Presence: Lead and inspire team members by spending at least 60% of the time working in the field to lead and inspire the team through driver ride-alongs, joint sales calls, customer visits, site monitoring, and cross-training to enable warehouse operations and identify continuous improvement opportunities such as route optimization and delivery efficiency.   • Resource Allocation: Efficiently allocate resources, including staffing, inventory and fuel supply, and budget to optimize profitability and operational efficiency. Creates budget and monitors financial performance. Maintain strong understanding of respective P&L’s along with levers to improve. Collaborates on resource utilization with other colleagues as appropriate to achieve big team goals and wins.

  • Scorecard Metrics: Collaborate with the Regional Operations Director and other C&I Managers to develop and refine key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure team performance, operational efficiency, and business impact. Oversee the tracking, reporting, and analysis of KPIs, making adjustments as needed to drive continuous improvement.

  • Technology: Ensure team effectively and consistently utilize approved technology. Effectively lead and manage implementation of company agreed upon technology solutions to streamline operations, enhance safety, and build customer engagement, loyalty and advocacy. Leverage data and analytics to make informed decisions, identify trends, and drive operational improvements.

  • Project Execution: Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of key projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.

Accountability:

  • Safe Work Environment: Lead and hold team accountable for ensuring a safe work environment. Ensure assigned location(s) comply(ies) with regulatory and security requirements, safety standards and policies. Investigates and prepares appropriate reports for accidents, injuries, & incidents. Support Regional Operations Manager and Senior Leadership in risk management / risk mitigation consistent with company goals.

  • People Operations: Implement and maintain regular cadence of L10’s, 121’s and quarterly conversations with direct reports to drive right person/right seat, drive retention and engagement and ensure alignment, accountability, and traction on key initiatives. Communicate clearly and frequently with team members and stakeholders. Assigns, directs and monitors work schedules and daily duties ensuring accurate and timely completion of responsibilities. Manage and monitor effective scheduling. Partner with Regional Operations Manager, Director of C&I and Human Resources Team on workforce planning, talent acquisition and development, recognition, pro-active coaching and corrective action, retention and engagement.

  • Problem-Solving: Effectively address problems or issues promptly and develop action plans for continuous improvement in operations and processes. Applies the EOS principles of IDS to address and resolve operational challenges, ensuring accountability, respectful discussion of issues and collaborative problem-solving. Facilitate resolution of escalated issues from customers or team members in a timely manner.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in operations management, preferably in commercial and industrial environments.

  • Experience implementing and working within an EOS framework is highly desirable.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • 5+ years of transacting data in WMS or ERP systems.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

  • Valid unencumbered driver’s license required.

  • CDL Preferred.

  • Ability to operate a manual/powered pallet jack or lift product – forklift license preferred.

  • Project Management Certification preferred.

Equipment and Software Requirements:

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite required.

  • Proficiency in using operations management software and tools.

  • Knowledge of general ERP & WMS software preferred.
