WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

The Commodity Sales Manager supports the Sales organization through a combination of commodity market analysis, pricing support, customer relationship management, and business development activities. This position monitors market conditions, assists with pricing strategies, supports existing customer accounts, and identifies opportunities to grow revenue through new customer development. The role works closely with Sales, Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain to drive profitable growth while supporting customer satisfaction and long-term business objectives.

  • Business Development & Sales
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within targeted customer segments.
    • Prospect potential customers through networking, industry events, referrals, market research, and cold-calling activities.
    • Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospective customers and sales opportunities.
    • Support efforts to expand market share and increase revenue within existing and new accounts.
    • Participate in customer presentations, sales meetings, trade shows, and business development activities.
    • Assist in preparing sales proposals, presentations, and customer pricing packages.
    • Conduct regular outreach to prospective customers to generate new sales opportunities.
    • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, opportunities, and customer interactions within CRM systems.
    • Collaborate with Sales leadership to develop account growth strategies and business development plans.


  • Account Management

    • Maintain productive relationships with existing customers and serve as a point of contact for day-to-day account support.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned customers, developing trusted relationships, managing account activities, coordinating orders, resolving issues, and identifying opportunities to grow existing and new business.
    • Partner with customers to understand business needs and identify opportunities for growth.
    • Support customer retention efforts through proactive communication and relationship management.
    • Monitor customer performance, contract compliance, and pricing opportunities.
    • Assist with resolving customer concerns and coordinating solutions with internal business partners.
    • Ensures that customer orders for the team are timely and accurately entered in the system, with appropriate transportation details and/or providing proactive guidance on fulfillment due to supply issues and constraints.


    Commodity & Pricing Analysis

    • Monitor commodity market conditions, supply trends, pricing fluctuations, and competitive activity.
    • Prepare market intelligence reports and communicate relevant insights to Sales leadership and customer teams.
    • Assist with the development of pricing recommendations and margin analyses.
    • Evaluate market trends and support forecasting activities.
    • Analyze pricing, profitability, and revenue performance across customer accounts.
    • Support customer contract negotiations by providing pricing and market data.
    • Maintain pricing databases, forecasting models, and commercial reporting tools.
    • Prepare weekly and monthly market updates for internal stakeholders.


    Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work closely with Operations, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Finance to understand cost drivers and market conditions.
    • Assist with demand planning, revenue forecasting, and scenario modeling.
    • Support strategic initiatives related to pricing, product innovation, and market expansion.
    • Partner with Finance to evaluate the financial impact of customer proposals and pricing decisions.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance commercial processes and customer service.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with pricing models, forecasting tools, and data analysis.
  • Solid understanding of commodity markets and cost drivers.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities, especially in customer-facing settings.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Occasional travel for customer visits, meetings, industry events, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Agriculture, Economics, Finance, Marketing, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in sales, business development, commodity analysis, pricing, account management, or commercial operations.
  • Experience supporting customer relationships and revenue growth initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret market and business data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM systems.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Candidates must have a verifiable history of safe vehicle operation and meet company standards for driving eligibility. This includes maintaining a clean driving record, which will be verified through a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in agriculture, food manufacturing, CPG, or produce industries.
  • Experience working with pricing, forecasting, or business intelligence tools.
  • Experience supporting commercial or sales teams.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 50 lbs.
  • Operate office equipment requires repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.

HOURS & WORKDAYS:

1st Shift – 6:00am – 3:00pm, Monday through Friday; flexibility required. Evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel may be required based on business needs, particularly major events.
