Communications & Marketing Specialist
Position Summary
The Communications & Marketing Specialist supports the execution of Omega CDC's internal and external communications and marketing efforts. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Engagement, this role serves as a key implementation partner, translating organizational strategy into content, materials, and digital presence that reflect Omega CDC's mission and impact. The Specialist works closely with the Director, program teams, and Omega CDC's external marketing vendor(s) to ensure consistent messaging, timely content production, and strong community visibility throughout Northwest Dayton.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing & Brand Support
- Support the Director of Communications and Engagement in implementing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies.
- Assist with strategic campaign planning and help ensure alignment between internal priorities and external messaging.
- Uphold and apply brand standards across all materials, platforms, and communications.
- Help translate organizational goals and program initiatives into clear, compelling marketing materials and communication assets.
Internal & External Communications
- Support internal communication efforts to keep staff, board members, and stakeholders informed and aligned.
- Coordinate and draft external communications, including newsletters, website content, social media posts, press releases, and public announcements.
- Review marketing and communications materials prior to release to ensure consistency with brand standards and organizational messaging.
Content Creation & Marketing Materials
- Create and coordinate the development of internal and external marketing materials, including:
- Flyers and promotional materials
- Event collateral
- Reports, presentations, infographics, and one-pagers
- Digital and print assets
- Help maintain and manage a content calendar to ensure timely production and distribution of materials across all channels.
Impact Storytelling & Community Visibility
- Support the development of compelling narratives that communicate Omega CDC's mission, programs, and community impact.
- Help translate program data, evaluation findings, and community outcomes into accessible stories for residents, partners, funders, and the public.
- Help identify opportunities to enhance storytelling, community engagement, and organizational visibility across digital and print platforms.
- Assist in developing reports, infographics, presentations, and other content that showcase measurable organizational impact.
Digital Presence & Performance Tracking
- Manage Omega CDC's digital platforms, including website updates, email marketing, and social media channels, in coordination with the external agency and under the Director's direction.
- Track and analyze communication metrics to measure performance and inform future content strategy.
- Help support the adoption and implementation of digital tools, AI, and emerging technologies that strengthen communications, workflow efficiency, and storytelling capacity.
Cross-Departmental & Initiative Support
- Collaborate with internal teams and community partners to ensure unified messaging across programs and initiatives.
- Develop key messaging frameworks and communication resources that clearly articulate program impact and community outcomes.
- Support organization-wide initiatives, events, campaigns, and key announcements by providing communications and marketing coordination.
- Assist in maintaining organization-wide communications calendars and engagement activities to promote cross-departmental collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience or a strong portfolio in communications, content development, graphic design, and tactical marketing.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and platforms.
- Experience managing social media platforms and developing engaging content that supports organizational goals.
- Experience with digital marketing tools, email marketing platforms, website content management systems, and performance analytics.
- Proficiency with design and content-creation tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, community members, partners, vendors, funders, and other stakeholders.
- Experience in nonprofit, community-based, or mission-driven marketing and communications preferred.
- Ability to translate organizational data and program outcomes into clear, engaging, and accessible stories.
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence and emerging digital tools, including their responsible use to support content development, communications, and workflow efficiency.
- Knowledge of Northwest Dayton or experience communicating with diverse communities is preferred.
- Photography, videography, or basic video-editing experience is a plus.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Work is performed primarily in an office environment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
