The Opportunity:

The Ministry is looking for an experienced, highly motivated and skilled communicator to join our Communications Branch as Manager of Communications.

The Manager will lead a busy team, providing comprehensive strategic communication services to drive public awareness of the Ministry’s programs. The team is responsible for communicating the great work done by the Ministry – with a portfolio that includes arts and culture, heritage, sport, French language, our Provincial Parks, the Status of Women Office, and the Royal Saskatchewan Museum.

This position will also lead internal communications for the ministry, driving both strategy and implementation to engage and inform staff.

  • Lead, mentor, and support a busy team of communication professionals to deliver a full range of internal and external communication services.
  • Manage media relations to drive earned media and provide information to the public on ministry services.
  • Develop effective communications strategies to promote Ministry programs and services.
  • Use proactive storytelling to highlight our commitment to health, wellness, safe communities, and environmental stewardship.
  • Prepare and/or review a variety of communications products, including news releases, speaking notes, key messages, media responses, and media events.
  • Lead internal communications, which includes responsibility for the intranet, town halls, staff events, culture and engagement, and executive communications.
  • Ensure brand storytelling and visual identity are cohesive and in alignment with corporate requirements across physical and digital environments

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • A strong writer and editor, able to craft clear, compelling messages and stories for a variety of products and platforms.
  • Comfortable working with media and managing sensitive issues, providing strategic communications advice to Ministry officials, and preparing responses as needed.
  • Creative, with experience developing and implementing engaging events.
  • Highly organized and at their best in a busy environment, able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while supporting staff and meeting deadlines.
  • Well versed in communications and marketing theory and techniques with proven ability to transform that knowledge into impressive strategies and tactics.
  • Experienced with strategic communications planning and developing proactive strategies that support organizational priorities.
  • Able to travel within the province, including overnight, and holds a valid driver’s licence.
