Communications Manager, Japan

Open 63d posting dated yesterday

We're looking for a Communications Manager, Japan to help us accomplish our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Are you ready to be the next changemaker in cancer care?

Flatiron Health is a healthtech company using data for good to power smarter care for every person with cancer, around the world. Flatiron partners with cancer centers in the US, Europe and Japan to transform patients’ real-life experiences into real-world evidence and create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem. Our multidisciplinary teams include oncologists, data scientists, software engineers, epidemiologists, product experts and more. Flatiron Health is an independent affiliate of the Roche Group.

What You'll Do

As Communications Manager, Japan, you will play a central, highly flexible role in driving Flatiron’s presence and partnerships in Japan. You will own and advance our marketing and communications strategy in the Japanese healthcare ecosystem while also providing hands-on support across partnership development and post-signing execution. This role is well suited for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, startup-like environment, is willing to roll up their sleeves to get into the weeds, can flex across strategic and operational needs, and is comfortable taking ownership from concept through delivery. You will help shape how Flatiron engages oncology practices, hospitals, and partners — ensuring clarity, credibility, and strong execution across marketing, communications, and partnerships. In addition you will:

  • Own and drive Flatiron’s marketing and communications strategy in Japan, defining priorities and translating them into clear, executable plans aligned with business and partnership goals
  • Develop, create, and publish high-quality content across owned channels (website, articles, blogs, webinars, social media, printed materials), from conceptualization through go-live (e.g. via HubSpot), and lead ongoing updates to Flatiron’s web presence in collaboration with US-based teams
  • Support strategic partnerships with cancer hospitals and pharmaceutical companies including preparation of materials, written communications, and hands-on support across partnership discussions and negotiations
  • Contribute to partnership success pre- and post-signing by supporting operational execution, partner communications, and ongoing collaboration (e.g. necessary ethics approval / IRB related procedures, coordinating information flows, follow-ups, and agreed deliverables)
  • Standardize marketing, communications, and partnership operations through robust documentation and tracking, including management of calendars, trackers, and resources, by driving consistency, quality, and measurable impact
  • Create communications tailored to pharma, healthcare, research, and policy stakeholders in Japan, including in regulatory and evidence-related contexts with strong attention to oncology, real-world evidence, and data sensitivity
  • Shape and coordinate Flatiron’s presence at conferences, industry events, and partner-facing forums, including conceptualization and execution of local Flatiron-hosted events, roundtables, or briefings

Who You Are

You're a kind, collaborative, and adaptable problem-solver who enjoys working across disciplines and stepping in where support is most needed. You combine strategic thinking with a “roll up your sleeves” mindset - someone who is not afraid to get into the weeds and balance long-term planning with immediate execution. You communicate clearly, work independently, and take pride in delivering high-quality outcomes in complex healthcare environments. In addition you have:

  • 3 - 5+ years of experience in communications, PR, marketing, consulting, partnerships, or related roles within healthcare, pharma, life sciences, health tech, or a fast-paced startup environment
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with significant attention to detail and a strong sense for tone, nuance, and accuracy
  • Interest in and aptitude for supporting partnership development and ongoing partner operations with Japanese hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and regulatory agencies
  • Native-level Japanese and business level English
  • Proven ability to develop and execute marketing or communications strategies, ideally within the Japanese healthcare ecosystem
  • Strong ownership in proactively mastering Japan’s complex regulatory and ethical landscape, with the agility to tailor communication strategies to resonate with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as HubSpot, Figma, and Adobe Creative Cloud (or comparable tools)

Optional

  • You have experience communicating with healthcare, pharma, or research stakeholders; familiarity with cancer institutions is a plus
  • You have experience working with the ethics approval or contractual processes with Japanese hospitals or pharmaceutical companies
  • You possess domain expertise relevant to Flatiron’s products to effectively articulate the impact of our RWD on the healthcare ecosystem: RWD, RWE, pharmaceutical business, health regulatory authority interaction, oncology, outcomes research, clinical research or related data/ research products
