Communications Specialist

Summary:
The Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting the development and execution of communication strategies that enhance the credit union’s brand, strengthen member and ambassador (employee) relationships, and support SRP’s organizational goals. Working in close partnership with the marketing and communications team, this role helps ensure that all messaging, storytelling, and brand communications are aligned with marketing initiatives to create a unified and impactful member experience. The Communications Specialist supports internal and external communications, media/public relations, digital presence, and community engagement efforts to ensure consistent, mission-driven messaging. Success in this role requires exceptional communication skills, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage multiple communication initiatives that elevate the credit union’s reputation and member experience.
Schedule: Hours may vary as required by departmental and community event planning needs. Occasional early mornings, late evenings and Saturdays are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for selling and cross-selling Credit Union services to current and potential members. Credit Union services are to be promoted using the "member benefit-based approach".
- Fully complies with the requirements of all Credit Union policies, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act and OFAC Policies.
Communications Strategy & Content Development
- Assist in developing and executing communication plans that promote the credit union’s mission, vision, and brand identity.
- Collaborate with organizational leaders to support strategic initiatives, member growth objectives, and community impact goals.
- Create compelling content and storytelling that strengthens brand awareness and reinforces the credit union’s value proposition.
- Support organizational messaging by developing communication materials for key initiatives and programs.
External Communications & Media/Public Relations
- Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and public communications to support positive visibility for the credit union.
- Assist with media relations efforts and help coordinate responses to media inquiries.
- Support communication planning during organizational events, initiatives, and crisis situations.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with community organizations, media contacts, and key stakeholders to enhance public engagement and brand awareness.
Internal Communications
- Develop and maintain clear, engaging internal communications to keep ambassadors informed and connected.
- Create content for newsletters, announcements, ambassador recognition programs, and organizational updates.
- Support leadership communication efforts related to organizational changes, initiatives, and culture-building activities.
- Maintain internal communication channels, communications calendar, campaign communication plans, and ensuring timely dissemination of information.
Community & Member Engagement
- Support community outreach programs that reinforce the credit union’s mission and visibility.
- Collaborate with internal departments to communicate the value of membership and available services to current/potential members.
- Help promote community partnerships and member-focused programs through various communication channels.
Project Coordination & Vendor Support
- Coordinate communication projects, timelines, and deliverables to ensure timely execution.
- Work with external vendors to support communication initiatives.
- Maintain records of communication assets, media contacts, and project materials.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure communication materials comply with applicable regulatory requirements, brand standards, and internal policies.
- Collaborate with compliance and risk teams to review communications when necessary.
- Support efforts to maintain accuracy, consistency, and transparency in all communications as it pertains to SRP’s Brand Book and policies/procedures.
