Waking Night Support Worker (Female Only)

  • Location: Lancaster & Morecambe Short Break Service
  • Hourly Rate: £13.45 per hour (Grade 3)
  • Night Shift Enhancement: +25% (£16.81 per hour)
  • Weekend Shift Enhancement: +33% (£17.89 per hour)
  • Contract Type: Part-time / Usually 2 nights per week, 20 hours
  • Sponsorship: Not open to international sponsorship. Must have the right to work in the UK

Lancashire County Council's Lancaster and Morecambe Short Break Service is seeking dedicated Female Waking Night Support Workers to join our friendly and supportive team. Our purpose-built short break service provides high-quality respite care for adults with learning disabilities and other support needs in a safe, welcoming, and person-centred environment.

As part of our overnight team, you will play an important role in ensuring the people we support feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for throughout the night.

About the Role

As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will deliver person-centred care and support that promotes independence, dignity, wellbeing, and choice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing overnight supervision and support to adults with disabilities.
  • Supporting individuals with personal care needs during the night.
  • Carrying out regular welfare, wellbeing, and safety checks.
  • Administering medication in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Responding effectively to emergencies and changing support needs.
  • Completing accurate records, reports, and documentation.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.
  • Following support plans, risk assessments, and service procedures at all times.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure excellent continuity of care.

About You

We are looking for people with the right values, attitude, and commitment to supporting others. Previous experience is welcomed but not essential, as full training will be provided.

You will:

  • Treat people with dignity, respect, and compassion.
  • Take a person-centred approach to support and care.
  • Be calm, reliable, and confident working independently.
  • Have good communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Be committed to achieving positive outcomes for people with disabilities.
  • Be able to work flexibly as part of a rota-based service.

Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities or other support needs is desirable but not essential.

Training and Development

Applicants who do not already hold an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent qualification) may be required to undertake the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, which will be fully funded by the service where applicable.
