Compensation Business Partner, Engineering, Product & Design

This position is no longer accepting applications(closed Aug 17, 2026).

Summary

Designs and advises on compensation for AI and engineering teams, balancing market data, equity, and internal equity to attract and retain top talent.

About the Role

We're a fast-scaling AI company reshaping how professional services — particularly legal and knowledge-work industries — operate end-to-end. With strong product-market fit, world-class investor backing, and a rapidly growing global customer base spanning 50+ countries, we're building for the long term and hiring people who want to grow alongside us.

We're looking for a Compensation Business Partner to join our People team embedded within our Engineering, Product & Design (EPD) organization. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role for someone who thrives at the intersection of data, strategy, and people. You'll be the go-to advisor for compensation across one of the most competitive talent markets in tech — AI and engineering.

This is a hybrid role based in our San Francisco or New York office, with an expectation of at least three days per week in-office to stay closely embedded with EPD teams. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with Leaders: Serve as a trusted advisor to EPD executives and managers, helping them make compensation decisions that balance market competitiveness, internal equity, and long-term impact. Guide leaders through offer structuring, promotions, and pay decisions with a clear, data-driven approach.

  • Enable Recruiting: Collaborate closely with recruiters to build compelling, market-aligned offers that win top candidates. Provide training, tools, and coaching so recruiters and hiring managers can confidently explain compensation programs and equity.

  • Drive Market Insights: Analyze compensation data to set and continuously refine salary and equity ranges, ensuring our total rewards remain competitive and well-calibrated against market benchmarks.

  • Support Program Design: Contribute to the design and evolution of compensation programs, job architecture, and leveling frameworks that scale with the organization.

  • Simplify Complexity: Translate intricate compensation concepts — equity mechanics, survey methodologies, pay bands — into clear, actionable guidance for diverse audiences across the business.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Compensation or HR, ideally within high-growth technology companies.

  • Strong foundational knowledge of Engineering, Product & Design roles and the technology industry talent landscape.

  • Deep expertise in base pay, equity, benchmarking, and job architecture.

  • Strong analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets; hands-on experience with compensation surveys and tools.

  • Proven track record of partnering with executives, HRBPs, and recruiters to influence decisions and drive outcomes.

  • Excellent communication skills — able to simplify complex compensation topics for a wide range of audiences.

  • Decisive mindset with the ability to weigh competing priorities and move things forward effectively.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Workday Advanced Compensation strongly preferred.

Location

This role is based in San Francisco, CA (New York, NY also considered). Hybrid schedule — minimum 3 days per week in office. Visa sponsorship is not available.
