Competence Manager - Finance

Accountabilities:
- Lead a defined community of engineers and technical experts with formal people-management responsibility, fostering an inclusive, psychologically safe, and high-performing environment.
- Coach and mentor team members through career development, individual growth plans, performance reviews, succession planning, and long-term capability building.
- Define and execute a competence development strategy aligned with current delivery requirements and future business needs.
- Build and nurture Communities of Practice that promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Engineering Managers, Technical Project Managers, Area Managers, People Business Partners, and other team leaders to align people, skills, and staffing with business priorities.
- Identify capability gaps and establish targeted development initiatives, including training, certifications, mentoring, internal mobility, and other learning opportunities.
- Contribute to workforce planning, talent pipelines, recruitment, onboarding, retention, and sourcing strategies for critical SAP Finance capabilities.
- Support resource planning and cost efficiency, including budgets associated with competence development and community activities.
- Represent the engineering community in organisational discussions and act as an escalation point for people-related matters that may affect delivery.
- Use workforce and competence data to understand capability coverage, development needs, emerging skills, and future organisational requirements.
- 14+ years of experience in SAP Finance (FICO), including 3–4 years of hands-on people management experience with direct reports, performance management, and career development responsibilities.
- Strong expertise across core SAP FICO modules, including General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Cost Center Accounting, Profit Center Accounting, and Internal Orders.
- Previous experience in a senior engineering, technical leadership, or technology management role within applications, software, data, platforms, or related technical domains.
- Strong subject matter expertise and a solid understanding of the end-to-end engineering and development lifecycle.
- Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring, and developing technical talent while aligning individual growth with business objectives.
- Experience creating or contributing to Communities of Practice and fostering environments that encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation.
- Experience with workforce, resource, or organisational planning, with the ability to connect capability requirements to business priorities.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across organisational levels.
- Good understanding of modern engineering practices, including Agile methodologies, CI/CD, DevOps, automation, and continuous improvement.
- Basic financial acumen and the ability to make informed decisions regarding staffing, resource allocation, and competence-development investments.
- A data-driven mindset with the ability to analyse capability gaps, measure development progress, and use insights to support organisational decisions.
