Compliance Manager- Deputy MLRO (UK)
Description
Klarna, briefly
At Klarna, we’re building an everyday finance network, helping over 120 million consumers across 26 countries save time and money, and worry less about their finances. Working here means taking on problems most companies never get to solve, and being hands-on enough that the interesting part of the work lands with you, not someone else — you’ll build with AI, not watch it happen. This is the stretch zone. Come find out what you’re capable of.
About the role Klarna Financial Services UK Limited is regulated by the FCA, and the UK MLRO is the senior individual accountable for its financial crime controls. This position is the deputy to that function. You’ll provide day-to-day secondary review of the decisions that carry the most financial crime risk, and you’ll step into the UK MLRO’s responsibilities when they’re absent. You’ll work across Klarna’s UK financial crime control framework, from suspicious activity reporting and sanctions matches to the policies and procedures that govern them. You’ll also work with first-line control owners to make sure controls are changed and communicated in line with UK law.
What you’ll do
You’ll provide secondary review and challenge on suspicious activity reports, PEP and high-risk customer decisions, incident escalations, and sanctions matches.
You’ll submit external reports to the NCA and OFSI under the direction of the UK MLRO.
You’ll contribute to Management Committee and Board reporting, the Annual MLRO Report, and the Business Wide Risk Assessment.
You’ll oversee outsourced and third-party AML/CTF functions with the UK MLRO, and run thematic reviews of the control framework.
You’ll update AML/CTF and sanctions policies, procedures, and routines, and communicate the changes to first-line control owners.
You’ll run regulatory horizon scanning and gap analysis, and bring control gaps to first-line control owners for resolution.
You’ll advise first-line colleagues on control changes that affect financial crime risk.
You’ll assess non-SAR, PEP, sanctions, and fraud customer escalations, such as FOS complaints, for financial crime compliance input.
You’ll prepare the data for Klarna’s Annual Financial Crime Report to the FCA (REPCRIM).
You’ll assess new products against UK financial crime obligations and give the UK MLRO clear recommendations.
Who you are
You’ve spent 7+ years in financial crime compliance, including time as a Deputy MLRO or Senior Compliance Manager, with hands-on experience of suspicious activity reporting, OFSI reporting, and PEP and high-risk customer assessments.
You’ve worked in financial services, fintech, or a firm offering products under the Consumer Credit Act.
You hold an AML/CTF or sanctions qualification, such as the ICA Certificate in AML or ACAMS, or an equivalent.
You have a working knowledge of financial crime typologies across money laundering, sanctions, terrorism, fraud, and bribery and corruption.
You keep your AML/CTF knowledge current through training, workshops, and regulatory publications.
