Position Summary
Responsible for Environment, Health, Safety, and Quality Compliance and Reporting. Compliance Manager has company-wide responsibility for quality assurance, workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and includes Manufacturing related CAD Systems.
This role consolidates multiple interrelated functions to reduce organizational risk, protect product integrity, and promote operational excellence through aligned standards, processes, and manufacturing systems. The Manager works collaboratively across departments and with site leadership to ensure quality, safety, and compliance considerations are integrated into daily operations and strategic decisions.
The position is responsible for establishing and leading the Quality Department from the ground up in a premium, low-volume production environment. The Manager provides both strategic direction and hands-on leadership to ensure Albemarle Boats’ handcrafted offshore sportfishing vessels consistently meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance. Albemarle Boats produces highly specialized, durable vessels recognized for rough-water performance and custom artisanship. This role helps ensure that every vessel leaving the facility reflects the company’s commitment to craftsmanship, compliance, and customer satisfaction while supporting sustainable growth.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum five years of combined experience in quality assurance, CNC programming/operation, and AutoCAD/CAM-based manufacturing, preferably within the marine, composites, or heavy manufacturing industries.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9000 standards, inspection methods, and quality documentation.
  • Experience in managing multiple production-related functions.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (Vcarve, AutoCad or similar CAD/CAM)
  • Strong knowledge of materials used in boat manufacturing, including fiberglass, composites, and stainless steel.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and complex technical specifications.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
Must be in good physical health, with good vision and not be colorblind. Must have a full range of bodily motion including standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds. Must be comfortable working in a production and CNC environment exposed to noise, dust, and temperature variations.
Mental Requirements:
Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English. Must be able to perform mathematical and analytical calculations accurately. Must have good short- and long-term memory, be detail-oriented, and capable of critical thinking. Must be able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both office and production/assembly floor environments that are generally well lighted. Work may occasionally involve exposure to manufacturing hazards, requiring adherence to all safety and PPE standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance & Product Integrity
  • Establish and lead the Quality Department, developing processes, policies, and reporting systems aligned with company objectives and customer expectations.
  • Implement, manage, and continuously improve the company-wide Quality Management System (QMS), including inspections, testing, nonconformance management, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Ensure design intent and product consistency through governance of CAD-controlled documentation and CNC programs.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, rework, warranty exposure, and customer complaints.
  • Prepare for, lead, and respond to internal, and customer quality audits.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Serve as the senior authority for workplace safety and regulatory compliance, including OSHA, EPA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop, implement, enforce safety programs, employee training, emergency action plans, and hazard mitigation strategies.
  • Lead incident investigations, near-miss analyses, and corrective actions to minimize injuries, downtime, and liability.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory inspections, citations, and compliance reporting.
  • Monitor evolving regulations and proactively implement compliance updates across the organization.
Manufacturing Systems, CAD & CNC Governance
  • Oversee CAD- and CNC-controlled manufacturing systems to ensure accuracy, revision control, and compliance with approved design specifications.
  • Establish and maintain robust controls for CNC programming, revision management, and change approval to prevent errors, scrap, and downstream failures.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to align manufacturing capabilities with quality and safety requirements.
  • Ensure CAD documentation, CNC programs, and related processes support consistent, repeatable, and compliant production.
Leadership & Strategic Impact
  • Direct, mentor, and develop cross-functional technical staff supporting quality, maintenance coordination, and CAD/CNC systems.
  • Define and report executive-level KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for quality performance, safety metrics, compliance status, and manufacturing system effectiveness.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to site and corporate leadership on operational risk, regulatory exposure, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Support parent company audits, reporting requirements, and corporate governance initiatives.
