Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Compliance Officer to support a broad range of compliance activities across Japan, Regional, and Global Compliance functions while helping enhance efficiency and innovation through technology and AI-enabled solutions.

This role partners closely with Compliance, Legal, Operations, Technology, HR, and business stakeholders to support regulatory obligations, compliance initiatives, governance activities, and strategic projects.

The role combines two key areas of focus:

  • Supporting compliance and regulatory activities across local, regional, and global compliance frameworks.
  • Enhancing operational effectiveness through AI, automation, data analytics, and technology-enabled solutions.

The successful candidate will help strengthen compliance processes, improve scalability and efficiency, and support the firm's evolving business and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, technology-minded, and comfortable working across diverse compliance topics in a dynamic, globally integrated environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Compliance & Regulatory Support

  • Support a broad range of compliance activities relating to PIMCO Japan's business, including regulatory obligations, compliance monitoring, governance, policies and procedures, training, and regulatory examinations.
  • Monitor and assess regulatory developments and business initiatives, and support the implementation of appropriate compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Japan, Regional, and Global Compliance teams, as well as Legal, Operations, Technology, HR, and business stakeholders.
  • Assist with regulatory filings, management reporting, compliance reviews, and other compliance-related projects and initiatives.

2. AI, Technology & Process Innovation

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability through technology, automation, and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Leverage AI tools, data analytics, and workflow technologies to enhance compliance processes, reporting, documentation, and knowledge management.
  • Support the evaluation, implementation, and governance of new technologies and AI-related initiatives within Compliance.
  • Develop dashboards, management information, and data-driven insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

Basic Qualifications

Experience

Position level (Senior Associate, Manager, or VP) will be determined based on the candidate's depth and breadth of experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Compliance, legal, operations, internal audit, internal controls, business management, process improvement, project management, technology enablement, or transformation initiatives.
  • Experience within an asset management firm, financial institution, professional services firm, consulting organization, or technology-enabled environment is preferred.
  • For entry-level candidates, including recent graduates, second-career graduates, and interns, prior professional experience is not required. Academic achievements, internships, extracurricular activities, and demonstrated interest in compliance, financial regulation, AI, technology, or business process improvement will also be considered.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to learn and support a broad range of compliance topics across local, regional, and global compliance functions.
  • Strong interest in AI, automation, digital tools, and emerging technologies, with the ability to apply them in practical business settings.
  • Experience leading or contributing to process improvement, operational efficiency, project management, or transformation initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and execution skills.
  • Working knowledge of financial services regulations and compliance frameworks, particularly in Japan, is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with data, systems, and technology-enabled solutions.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Native-level Japanese and business-level English proficiency.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

  • Previous experience within a Compliance function.

  • Professional certifications in compliance, audit, project management, technology, or other relevant disciplines.
