Composites Technician - Table Cutter (2nd Shift)

Summary

Operate CNC cutting tables to precision-cut composite materials for aerospace/defense parts, ensuring accuracy and quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

At Layup Parts, we're developing the technology that will build the future.

We're a manufacturing technology company replacing months of lead time with days, using proprietary software, automation, and advanced manufacturing systems built for speed. Our customers are inventing what's next, in aerospace, defense, robotics, and beyond. To keep up with them, manufacturing has to change. That's what we're building.

We are seeking a skilled Composites Technician to join our manufacturing team with a focus on table cutting operations. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and cutting composite materials using CNC cutting tables (Eastman) to support downstream lamination and production processes. This is a hands-on position that plays a critical role in ensuring material accuracy, efficiency, and quality.

Layup Parts 2nd Shift starts at 2:00PM and comes with $1.50 differential.

What You’ll Do:

  • Operate cutting equipment: Set up, program, and run Eastman cutting machines to cut prepreg, dry fabric, and other composite materials according to production requirements.
  • Material preparation: Pull, thaw, and stage prepreg rolls; handle and organize composite materials to maintain proper freezer/thaw tracking and shelf-life controls.
  • File and program management: Load and execute cut files from engineering, verify ply orientation and nesting layouts, and ensure accuracy before cutting.
  • Quality assurance: Inspect cut plies for accuracy, defects, and completeness; label, organize, and kit cut materials for production teams.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine machine cleaning, blade changes, and preventive maintenance on cutting tables to ensure consistent performance.
  • Documentation: Accurately record material usage, waste, and cut part data in ERP/MES systems; support traceability and quality record-keeping requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, laminators, and production staff to ensure kits are delivered on time and meet specifications.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Be awesome! Be the kind of person you want to work with!
  • 3+ years of experience in a composites manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Gerber, Eastman, or other automated cutting tables.
  • Understanding of composite materials (prepregs, dry fabric, core materials) and freezer/thaw handling practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, cut files, and work instructions.
  • Comfortable using ERP/MES systems for data entry and tracking.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to handle material rolls, move kits, and stand for extended periods.
