Concrete - Project Manager II/III

Discussion

Summary

Manages multiple concrete construction projects in Hawaii from planning through closeout, owning budgets, schedules, safety, and quality while coaching Project Engineers and coordinating field teams. Core tools: Microsoft Office, HeavyJob, Bluebeam, and Procore; level (PM II vs III) set by demonstrated experience.

The Opportunity

Some people manage construction projects. Others build the teams, systems, and results that set the standard for everyone else.

At Alpha Inc., we're looking for the second kind.

We're searching for a high-performing Project Manager II or Project Manager III – Concrete who knows how to turn complex construction challenges into safe, profitable, high-quality results.

Someone who understands that a successful concrete pour starts long before the trucks arrive. Someone who knows their numbers, earns the respect of the field, builds trust with clients, and takes ownership when things don't go according to plan.

This isn't a role for someone who simply tracks schedules, forwards emails, and waits for problems to solve themselves.

We want a builder. A problem-solver. A leader who owns the outcome.

Whether you're a proven Project Manager ready to take on greater responsibility or an experienced leader capable of overseeing complex projects and developing other Project Managers, we want to hear from you.

We'll match the level of the role to the strength of the leader.

Bring the track record. Bring the grit. We'll bring the opportunity.

About Alpha Inc.

Alpha Inc. is a locally owned Hawai?i company delivering construction, concrete, drilling, energy, and infrastructure solutions that help build stronger island communities.

We're not interested in doing things halfway.

We believe exceptional results come from exceptional people working together, holding themselves accountable, and taking pride in the work they leave behind.

Our three core values aren't corporate decorations. They're how we operate.

Lead with Heart – We lead with humility, empathy, and respect. We take care of our people and recognize that great leadership starts with genuinely caring.

Strength in Unity – One team. One mission. We collaborate across departments, support our crews, and win together.

Alpha Mentality – We bring grit, ownership, accountability, and a relentless commitment to excellence. Challenges don't intimidate us. They motivate us.

If those values describe how you already operate, you'll feel right at home.

What You'll Own

Deliver Projects That Perform

  • Lead multiple concrete construction projects, major scopes of work, or complex construction programs from planning through closeout.
  • Take ownership of schedules, budgets, production, quality, and overall project performance.
  • Partner with Superintendents and field leadership to coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, concrete placements, and sequencing.
  • Anticipate challenges before they become costly surprises and develop solutions that keep projects moving.
  • Establish clear priorities, hold teams accountable, and ensure commitments translate into results.

The expectation: Projects are well planned, teams are aligned, and execution is safe, disciplined, and consistent.

Know Your Numbers. Protect the Margin.

  • Own or oversee project budgets, forecasting, cost tracking, and cost-to-complete reporting.
  • Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, production performance, and job costs.
  • Manage or provide oversight of change orders, contract administration, procurement, billing, and financial risks.
  • Identify financial exposure early and take decisive action to protect project performance.
  • Communicate project financial health clearly, accurately, and proactively.

The expectation: You don't discover financial problems at project closeout. You see them coming, communicate them, and take action.

Lead the Field. Earn the Trust.

  • Build strong partnerships with Superintendents, foremen, Project Engineers, and supporting departments.
  • Lead productive project meetings, client updates, subcontractor coordination, and planning discussions.
  • Develop trusted relationships with owners, general contractors, inspectors, design professionals, vendors, and project partners.
  • Navigate difficult conversations, resolve conflicts, and keep teams focused on solutions.
  • Champion jobsite safety, quality standards, and professional accountability.

The expectation: People trust your leadership because you're prepared, consistent, respectful, and willing to own the hard decisions.

Build People, Not Just Projects.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop Project Engineers and emerging project leaders.
  • Set clear expectations and provide timely, constructive performance feedback.
  • Create a culture where accountability and support go hand in hand.
  • Identify high-potential talent and help develop the next generation of Alpha leaders.
  • Model Alpha's core values in the way you lead, communicate, and make decisions.

The expectation: Your leadership makes the people around you better.

Raise the Bar.

  • Drive consistency in scheduling, project controls, documentation, QA/QC, and project execution.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting, including RFIs, submittals, field documentation, schedules, and closeout records.
  • Champion safety practices and compliance with applicable OSHA requirements and company policies.
  • Identify smarter ways to work through process improvements, technology, and lessons learned.
  • Partner across operations, estimating, safety, equipment, and accounting to eliminate obstacles and improve performance.

The expectation: You don't settle for "that's how we've always done it." You find ways to make good operations great.

Two Levels. One Standard of Excellence.

We're hiring for the right leader and will determine the appropriate level based on demonstrated capability, experience, and the complexity of work successfully delivered.

Project Manager II – The Proven Executor

You're an established Project Manager who can independently drive multiple concrete projects and lead teams with limited supervision.

Your leadership focus:

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects, major scopes, or field crews.
  • Own project-level financial performance, schedules, and execution.
  • Directly manage, coach, and develop approximately 1–3 Project Engineers.
  • Coordinate effectively with Superintendents and field operations.
  • Drive consistent project controls, communication, and client satisfaction.
  • Identify operational risks and implement effective solutions.

Typical background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 1–3 years of successful performance as a Project Manager I, or equivalent experience managing multiple concrete construction projects.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple scopes, concurrent work fronts, and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience mentoring and developing project management personnel.
  • Strong knowledge of concrete construction methods, budgeting, scheduling, contracts, and project controls.

You're ready for this level if: You've proven you can run the work, manage the numbers, lead your team, and consistently deliver without someone looking over your shoulder.

Project Manager III – The Leader of Leaders

You've moved beyond successfully managing your own projects. You can guide other Project Managers, navigate complex commercial risks, and improve performance across multiple teams.

Your leadership focus:

  • Provide senior-level oversight of complex concrete projects, major programs, and multiple project teams.
  • Directly supervise, mentor, and develop Project Manager II personnel.
  • Guide teams through complex contracts, forecasting, negotiations, change management, and commercial risk.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for significant client, contractual, financial, and operational challenges.
  • Support estimating, proposals, preconstruction planning, and strategic project pursuits.
  • Lead improvements in project management practices, training, and operational consistency across the Concrete Division.
  • Develop future leaders and strengthen organizational capability.

Typical background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 2–4 years of successful performance as a Project Manager II, or equivalent leadership experience managing complex concrete construction operations.
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple projects, Project Managers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to manage complex contracts, financial forecasts, negotiations, and commercial risks.
  • A track record of developing Project Engineers and Project Managers into stronger, promotable leaders.
  • Advanced expertise in concrete construction, estimating, scheduling, budgeting, project controls, and contract administration.

You're ready for this level if: Your impact extends beyond the projects you personally manage. You elevate teams, strengthen systems, develop leaders, and improve the performance of the broader operation.

What You Bring to the Table

We're looking for more than an impressive résumé. We're looking for evidence of performance.

Technical Expertise

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, HeavyJob, Bluebeam, Procore, or comparable construction management platforms.
  • OSHA 30 certification required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • ACI certification encouraged for PM II and preferred for PM III.

Leadership & Mindset

  • You know how to lead people, not just direct tasks.
  • You can challenge decisions respectfully and collaborate without ego.
  • You communicate clearly, especially when the message is difficult.
  • You understand that safety, quality, productivity, and profitability must work together.
  • You thrive in a fast-moving environment where preparation, sound judgment, and follow-through matter.

What Separates an A-Player?

We believe past performance is one of the strongest indicators of future success.

The candidates who stand out will be able to share real examples of:

  • Projects delivered: Concrete projects successfully completed with strong safety, quality, schedule, and financial outcomes.
  • Financial ownership: Situations where disciplined forecasting, cost control, or proactive problem-solving protected or improved project margins.
  • Leadership impact: People you've coached, developed, or prepared for greater responsibility.
  • Complex problem-solving: Challenging projects or operational issues you've successfully navigated.
  • Client relationships: Trust you've earned through communication, reliability, and consistent execution.
  • Continuous improvement: Processes, systems, or team practices you've improved with measurable results.
