SMX Configuration Management Analyst (5563)
SMX is seeking a Configuration Management Analyst to support Configuration Management (CM) activities within a dynamic DoD IT and engineering environment. This position will support the development, implementation, and maintenance of CM processes used to identify, document, track, and control changes across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
This position is on-site at NAS Patuxent River, MD and requires an active Secret security clearance. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with configuration baselines, Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), configuration audits, status accounting, and Configuration Management tools.
This role works closely with engineering, cybersecurity, operations, and leadership teams to maintain configuration integrity and ensure changes are properly evaluated, documented, approved, and implemented.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and execute Configuration Management (CM) plans, policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Perform Configuration Management activities across the full configuration lifecycle, including configuration identification, change control, status accounting, verification, and auditing
- Maintain accurate configuration records and ensure Change Requests (CR's), documentation, and associated changes are properly identified, tracked, controlled, and documented
- Support Configuration Control Boards (CCBs)
- Perform CM activities across cloud, on-premises, and Hybrid environments
- Coordinate with engineering, cybersecurity, operations, program management, Government Leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure configuration changes are appropriately evaluated and controlled
- Provide timely and accurate configuration status, metrics, and reporting to program leadership and engineering teams
Required Skills & Experience
- Clearance Required: Secret
- 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience supporting Configuration Management, Product Lifecycle Management, systems engineering, IT operations, or a related technical discipline
- Demonstrated experience performing Configuration Management activities within technical or engineering environments
- Experience supporting Configuration Control Board (CCB), Engineering Change Proposal (ECP), or similar formal change-control processes
- Experience using Configuration Management tools, and/or Product Lifecycle Management tools
- Familiarity with collaboration, documentation, and source-control platforms such as SharePoint, OneDrive, DodSAFE, etc.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple configuration actions simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Desired Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Experience supporting DoD, federal government, or other highly regulated technical environments., Including an understanding of DoD Impact Levels, including IL2, IL4, IL5, and IL6
- Familiarity with ServiceNow, including ServiceNow Assistance Portal (SNAP), or similar IT Service Management platforms
- Familiarity with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure
- Understanding of DoD cloud environments and Impact Levels, including IL2, IL4, IL5, and IL6
- Familiarity with applicable cybersecurity and technical guidance, including FedRAMP, NIST, FIPS, DoD SRG, and SCCA requirements
- Experience working with Windows and Unix/Linux operating environments
- Ability to evaluate and adopt emerging CM technologies, automation, and cloud-based configuration management capabilities
