Caladwich is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Configuration Management and Documentation Specialist / Technical Writer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Information Security Cybersecurity Operations and Security Engineering (COSE) program. The selected professional will manage configuration information, change records, technical documentation, and controlled deliverables supporting VA cybersecurity engineering. This role ensures that hardware, software, baselines, system configurations, and documents remain accurate, traceable, and audit-ready.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to disciplined lifecycle control and clear technical communication across VA's enterprise security work. The specialist connects configuration-management practices with project delivery so approved changes, system states, and decisions can be understood and verified.

Core Responsibilities

· Establish and maintain configuration-management and document-control processes for hardware, software, system configurations, baselines, technical artifacts, and contract deliverables.

· Identify, record, control, audit, and report the status of configuration items across VA systems, platforms, and technologies.

· Maintain centralized configuration records and support an accurate configuration management database (CMDB).

· Document technical processes, system configurations, architecture decisions, change-management procedures, standards, and operational guidance.

· Coordinate change requests, impact analyses, approvals, version control, release records, and verification of implemented changes.

· Develop, edit, format, and quality-check technical reports, plans, diagrams, briefings, procedures, and other Government deliverables.

· Support enterprise security baseline development and lifecycle governance for traditional, cloud-native, medical-device, IoT, and emerging-technology environments.

· Apply IT service management and configuration-management best practices, including ITIL-aligned controls, within project-oriented environments.


Operational Support

· Coordinate with VA stakeholders, technical teams, system owners, and other contractors to resolve issues and keep work aligned with VA priorities.

· Develop, maintain, and submit accurate technical documentation, status information, and contract deliverables within required timeframes.

· Apply VA security, privacy, accessibility, records-management, and configuration-management requirements to all work products.

· Support risk, issue, dependency, schedule, and quality management activities, including corrective actions and continuous improvement.

· Protect VA information and systems, use approved collaboration and remote-access methods, and promptly report security or privacy concerns.

· Participate in meetings, reviews, briefings, and occasional travel as directed and approved under the task order.

· Administer document repositories, naming conventions, templates, approval workflows, retention requirements, and controlled distribution.

· Perform configuration audits and reconcile documentation, approved baselines, CMDB records, and deployed states; track discrepancies through closure.
