POSITION SUMMARY:
The Construction Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and successful execution of assigned construction projects from mobilization through final turnover. This position serves as the primary field leader for project execution and is responsible for coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, self-perform crews, and project stakeholders to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with contract requirements, company standards, and project objectives.
The Construction Manager works closely with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Safety, and Client representatives while providing leadership and oversight to field personnel and subcontractors. This position requires a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, schedule management, and team development.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*
Project Execution & Leadership
- Lead day-to-day construction activities for assigned projects.
- Ensure work is executed in accordance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, permits, and company standards.
- Review, interpret, and develop a comprehensive understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and engineering deliverables to ensure accurate project execution and identify potential conflicts, constructability concerns, and scope gaps.
- Coordinate civil, foundations, mechanical, electrical, commissioning, and testing activities.
- Develop and implement project execution plans that support project milestones and contractual obligations.
- Drive accountability throughout the project team to achieve safety, quality, schedule, and production goals.
- Identify and resolve field issues that may impact project performance.
- Coordinate turnover of work fronts between civil, foundations, mechanical, electrical, and commissioning teams to maintain project momentum and production goals.
- Support project turnover, commissioning, substantial completion, and final closeout activities.
- Maintain a visible field presence and promote proactive leadership throughout the project lifecycle.
Safety Leadership
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all project activities.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, site-specific safety requirements, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Participate in regular site safety inspections, observations, and audits.
- Partner with project safety personnel to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Lead by example and reinforce safe work practices among employees and subcontractors.
- Support incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
- Ensure subcontractors maintain compliance with project safety requirements.
Schedule & Production Management
- Support development and maintenance of project schedules.
- Monitor progress against baseline schedules and contractual milestones.
- Track daily, weekly, and monthly production performance.
- Develop and implement recovery plans when project performance falls behind plan.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and work fronts to maximize productivity.
- Identify schedule risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
- Lead daily coordination meetings and weekly planning sessions with project teams and subcontractors.
- Forecast upcoming resource requirements and potential project constraints.
Subcontractor & Field Management
- Manage subcontractor performance, productivity, safety, quality, and contract compliance.
- Coordinate subcontractor activities to ensure efficient sequencing of work.
- Monitor workforce levels and support manpower planning efforts.
- Facilitate coordination between subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
- Review and address field issues, scope gaps, and potential change events.
- Ensure project logistics, material deliveries, equipment utilization, and site access are effectively managed.
- Foster collaborative relationships while maintaining accountability for performance expectations.
Quality Management
- Ensure construction activities comply with project specifications, quality requirements, and industry standards.
- Support implementation of project quality control programs and procedures.
- Coordinate inspections, testing activities, turnover documentation, and corrective actions.
- Monitor observations, deficiencies, punch list items, and non-conformance reports through resolution.
- Ensure construction scopes are completed and documented in accordance with project requirements.
- Promote a culture of quality throughout all phases of construction.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Serve as the primary field representative of Louth Callan on assigned projects.
- Maintain professional relationships with clients, engineers, consultants, utilities, AHJs, landowners, and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in owner meetings, progress reviews, and stakeholder coordination meetings.
- Communicate project status, risks, recovery actions, and key milestones effectively.
- Support resolution of project issues through collaboration and proactive communication.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly project reports.
- Track production, manpower, equipment utilization, safety metrics, and project performance indicators.
- Support schedule updates, forecasting efforts, and project controls reporting.
- Utilize company software platforms including Buildertrend, HeavyJob, Google Workspace, and Bluebeam.
- Ensure timely completion and distribution of required project documentation.
Team Development & Leadership
- Support and mentor superintendents, field engineers, project engineers, and field support personnel.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Support employee development through coaching, training, and performance feedback.
- Promote leadership development within project teams.
- Assist with onboarding and development of new project personnel.
