Construction Supervisor - Dallas, TX

Discussion
Position Summary:
Alamon, Inc., a Montana-based employee-owned company since 1975, provides installation services to the utilities, energy, and communications industries nationwide. There is no ceiling when it comes to your professional growth at Alamon, an employee – owned company.
Alamon is seeking a Construction Supervisor to be the company’s daily on-site authority for the construction of standby and prime power generator systems, fuel storage and fuel polishing systems, associated civil site work, and the electrical scope that ties them together. This is a professional project management role executed at ground level: the Supervisor is physically present on the assigned site every working day, directs every contractor and trade working there, and is accountable for what is actually installed, inspected, and turned over.
The role exists to convert plans, schedules, and subcontracts into verified, code-compliant, installed work — and to catch the problem in the trench or the raceway on the day it happens, not in a report three weeks later. Where the Construction Manager owns the portfolio, the Construction Supervisor owns the site.
This is not an administrative or remote-monitoring position. The Supervisor walks the work, measures it, photographs it, and signs off on it.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Site Command
  • Site Ownership: Be on the assigned site before the first crew arrives and remain until the site is secured; own the start and end of every working day.
  • Safety Briefings: Conduct daily pre-task safety briefings and job hazard analysis reviews with all crews and subcontractors on site.
  • Work Plan Sequencing: Set and adjust daily and three-week look-ahead work plans; assign work areas, sequence trades, and prevent trade stacking and congestion.
  • Daily Reporting: Maintain a written daily report for every site day detailing manpower by contractor, equipment on site, work completed, quantities installed, deliveries received, weather, delays, visitors, inspections, and safety observations.
  • Photo Documentation: Photograph all covered work before it is concealed — subgrade, rebar, conduit runs, duct bank, grounding electrode system, penetrations, and backfill.
  • Logistics Management: Control site logistics including laydown areas, material staging and protection, crane and lift placement, deliveries, dumpsters, sanitary facilities, temporary power, fencing, and site security.
  • Security & Access: Enforce site access, badging, escort, and customer-specific security and outage protocols.
  • Escalation: Report site status to the Construction Manager daily, and escalate cost, schedule, or scope exposure the same day it is identified.
Contractor and Trade Supervision
  • Single Point of Field Direction: Direct all subcontractors and vendors performing work on the assigned site — no subcontractor takes direction from the customer or another trade.
  • Mobilization Verification: Verify that each subcontractor crew has required licensing, certifications, insurance on file, task-specific training, and correct PPE prior to mobilization.
  • Contract & Scope Enforcement: Hold contractors to contracted scope, means, methods, and manpower commitments; document manpower shortfalls and unproductive time.
  • Hold-Point Inspections: Inspect and formally accept or reject subcontractor work at defined hold points; reject nonconforming work in writing before follow-on work proceeds.
  • Change Control: Identify out-of-scope or changed work immediately, stop that specific activity, and notify the Construction Manager before work is performed — no verbal authorizations or field-negotiated pricing.
  • Issue Documentation: Document performance issues, safety violations, damage, cleanup failures, and backcharge-eligible events with photographs, dates, and named individuals.
  • Vendor & Utility Coordination: Coordinate the customer’s own vendors, utility crews, inspectors, and testing agencies working within the site footprint.
  • Subcontractor Meetings: Lead weekly on-site subcontractor coordination meetings and publish the resulting action list.
Civil and Site Work
  • Layout Verification: Lay out and verify building lines, equipment locations, elevations, and offsets against approved civil and structural drawings before excavation or placement.
  • Excavation & Trench Safety: Confirm utility locates are current and valid before excavation; enforce trench protection, spoil placement, sloping/benching, shoring, and competent-person inspection requirements.
  • Subgrade & Compaction: Supervise excavation, subgrade preparation, aggregate placement, and compaction; coordinate and witness density/compaction testing and reject failing lifts.
  • Pre-Pour Inspection: Inspect formwork, embeds, anchor bolt templates, conduit stub-ups, sleeves, rebar size, spacing, cover, and tie-off prior to any concrete placement.
  • Concrete Operations: Manage concrete pours for generator pads, fuel tank foundations, containment structures, transformer/switchgear pads, and equipment enclosures (pre-pour checklist, mix verification, slump/air testing, cylinder sampling, placement, consolidation, finishing, curing, and protection).
  • As-Built Verification: Verify as-built dimensions, anchor bolt locations, and pad elevations against equipment shop drawings before setting generators or tanks.
  • Restoration & Site Utilities: Supervise underground utilities, drainage, stormwater controls, erosion protection, bollards/barrier protection, access roads, fencing, grading, seeding, and final site restoration.
Generator and Fuel Systems
  • Equipment Rigging & Setting: Plan and supervise rigging, setting, alignment, leveling, shimming, grouting, and anchoring of diesel and natural gas generator sets, sub-base tanks, remote tanks, day tanks, and enclosures.
  • Mechanical Clearances & Exhaust: Verify vibration isolation, exhaust routing, silencers, thimbles, flexible connections, cooling/radiator clearances, louvers, combustion/ventilation air paths, and remote radiator/pump installations.
  • Fuel Piping & Containment: Supervise fuel piping installation, supports, pitch, containment, leak detection, tank venting, fill/spill containment, overfill prevention, tightness testing, and fuel polishing/filtration system installation.
  • Commissioning Support: Coordinate and witness initial fill, fuel quality sampling, priming, pre-start checks, factory start-up, load bank testing, and functional/integrated system commissioning; retain all test records.
  • Code & Standards Compliance: Verify installations against manufacturer requirements and codes, including NFPA 110 (Emergency and Standby Power Systems), NFPA 30 / 30A (Flammable and Combustible Liquids/Fuel Storage), and state/EPA spill rules.
  • Turnover Readiness: Confirm operating manuals, warranty registrations, test data, and fuel maintenance documentation are complete prior to turnover.
Electrical Scope — Conduit, Wire, and Terminations
  • Raceway Installation: Supervise and inspect raceway installation (EMT, IMC, rigid metal, PVC, concrete-encased duct bank) — routing, supports, spacing, bend radius, total degrees of bend between pull points, fittings, expansion provisions, sealing, and identification.
  • Sizing & Fill: Verify conduit fill, sizing, and derating against approved schedules before wire pulls.
  • Cable Pulls & Routing: Supervise cable/wire installation, pulling tension, lubrication, pulling eyes, cable protection, phase identification, color coding, vertical raceway supports, and routing in gutters/panels.
  • Terminations & Torque: Inspect terminations and connections: lug/conductor material, prepared conductors, torque applied to specification with calibrated tools (marked), insulation/taping, and phase rotation.
  • Grounding & Bonding: Verify grounding electrode conductors, ground rods, Ufer/rebar connections, exothermic welds, equipment grounding conductors, bonding jumpers, and neutral-to-ground separation on generator and downstream ATS prior to concealment.
  • Equipment & Interconnects: Supervise installation and interconnection of ATS, paralleling switchgear, distribution panels, feeders, control/interlock wiring, remote annunciators, battery chargers, block heaters, and monitoring/communications circuits.
  • Diagram Literacy & Redlines: Read and work from one-line diagrams, panel schedules, conduit/cable schedules, control schematics, and wiring diagrams; validate installed work against drawings and mark daily redlines.
  • Electrical Safety & Codes: Enforce NFPA 70 (NEC) requirements and NFPA 70E safe work practices (approach boundaries, arc flash risk assessment, incident energy labeling, PPE selection, and electrically safe work condition establishment).
  • Utility & Outage Management: Coordinate utility service, metering, outage windows, temporary power, switching/tagging plans, and energization sequences with the customer, utility, and Construction Manager.
  • Acceptance Testing: Witness or coordinate insulation resistance, continuity, phase rotation, torque verification, breaker/relay functional testing, and transfer/retransfer sequence testing.
Safety and Compliance
  • Competent Person Authority: Act as the company’s on-site competent person; enforce safety programs and OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926 construction standards without exception.
  • Safety Protocols: Enforce LOTO, energized work permits, arc-rated clothing/PPE, fall protection, ladder/scaffold safety, confined space entry, excavation protection, crane/rigging plans, hot work permits, silica controls, and temperature illness prevention.
  • Stop-Work Authority: Exercise stop-work authority immediately for any unsafe act or condition, regardless of employer, schedule pressure, or customer presence.
  • Audits & Meetings: Conduct documented weekly site safety audits and toolbox talks; correct and close findings promptly.
  • Incident Management: Secure, investigate, and document all incidents, near misses, property damage, and utility strikes; notify the Construction Manager immediately and drive corrective action.
  • Site Compliance Posting: Maintain permits, record drawings, SDS, emergency action plans, inspection records, and equipment inspection logs on site.
Quality, Documentation, and Turnover
  • Hold-Point Sign-offs: Maintain site inspection and test plans; personally verify and sign off each hold point before follow-on work begins.
  • As-Built Redlines: Maintain daily redlines and deliver clean, marked-up as-builts for electrical, civil, and fuel scopes at project completion.
  • Material Tracking: Track deliveries, shortages, damage claims, and long-lead items; report date adjustments to the Construction Manager immediately.
  • Punch List Management: Build and drive punch lists prior to customer walks; close items before substantial completion.
  • Closeout Package: Assemble closeout packages (test/commissioning records, compaction/concrete reports, torque logs, inspection sign-offs, as-builts, O&M manuals, warranties, spare parts, and keys).
  • Turnover & Training: Walk completed systems with customer/Construction Manager and support operator training and turnover.
