Description

GMA, one of the Mid-Atlantic’s leading independent CPA and advisory firms, is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Consultant to support our Forensic, Valuation and Litigation Support group. This role combines client-chargeable paraprofessional work with administrative support for partners and professional staff.

We value people who take ownership, support their colleagues and care about the quality of their work. This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to client engagements while helping the team stay organized and responsive.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in a law firm, accounting firm or related professional services environment. This person should be comfortable organizing large volumes of records, working with financial information and following assignments through with limited day-to-day direction once priorities and procedures are established.

Key Responsibilities

Client Engagement and Practice Support

  • Prepare engagement letters and other client-related documents using approved templates, and route drafts for partner review and approval.

  • Export, organize and check financial data in Excel, including bank, credit card and investment records, tax returns and accounting reports.

  • Prepare basic financial schedules, transaction summaries and reconciliations under professional staff direction, and flag gaps or inconsistencies for review.

  • Catalogue, index and maintain electronic and physical client records using consistent file names, document logs and version controls.

  • Support billing and accounts receivable follow-up, including assembling billing information and identifying missing time entries or supporting records.

  • Track project deadlines, outstanding information requests and engagement status, and raise potential delays early.

  • Coordinate client and attorney communications, schedule meetings and follow up on document requests as directed.

  • Provide administrative support to partners and professional staff, including correspondence, meeting materials and engagement setup.

  • Assembles proposals and business development materials, maintains groups pipeline tracker and prepares material for meetings with potential clients.

  • Assemble document chronologies, exhibits and supporting schedules for reports, depositions, mediation or trial under the engagement team’s direction.

  • Proofread and format reports, schedules and presentations, and check that references agree to supporting documents.

  • Handle confidential client information carefully and follow firm procedures for secure storage, access and document transfer.

  • Manage assigned tasks within agreed time budgets, communicate progress and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Competencies

The most successful candidates will be proactive, dependable and highly organized. They will take ownership of recurring tasks, ask thoughtful questions, communicate professionally and maintain accuracy when priorities change. They should be comfortable working independently within established procedures and knowing when to seek guidance.

Billable Work and Time Reporting

This is a partially billable role. Following onboarding, the expectation is that at least 50% of available working time will be spent on client-chargeable work, with a target of 50–60% or more as engagement needs and assigned responsibilities allow. The remaining time supports practice administration and coordination.

Record all working time accurately and promptly, using clear descriptions and the correct client or internal codes. Client time must relate to authorized engagement work and follow the engagement terms and firm billing guidelines. Routine internal administration and business development support remains nonbillable.
